Despite being generally indignantly independent and dismissive of special treatment just because I'm pregnant...I actually LOVE it on those rare occasions when people do some nice for you because of the bump.

I've just been out to buy my lunchtime sandwich and was gifted a free drink "for the baby". I'm not sure the baby strictly speaking needs a can of fizzy pop, but it put a smile on my face.

What random acts of kindness have you enjoyed whilst pregnant?

This will completely out me but anyway, I was heavily pregnant with DD when we had a lots of snow (a good foot plus) I went to cross the road which had been ploughed so there was a lot of sludge by the path, a lovely man made me take his arm and walked me across both piles of sludge.
He was so nice

Someone had a spare mcbusted ticked and asked me if I wanted to go with them to cheer me up after having such a
Rotten first 18 weeks! She wouldn't even let me pay for the ticket!

Plateofcrumbs · 16/05/2014 15:02

Mcbusted? Are you sure that was an act of kindness newlywed ? Grin

A lady gave up her seat for me on the tube when she spotted my "baby on board" badge. Lovely!

hubbahubster · 16/05/2014 15:39

None.

Not a thing.

FunnyFoot · 16/05/2014 15:43

An old lady at the bus stop saw me attempting to run for the oncoming bus and given that I was huge I was clearly not going to make it. When the bus arrived she purposefully took her time getting on and then spent a good while looking for her bus pass.
This gave me time to waddle fast and get on the bus. The bus driver was clearly not impressed by her dallying but she gave me a wink as she sat down.

Made me smile all day Grin

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/05/2014 15:45

Anyone that's given me a seat on the tube or the bus. Lovely.

Plateofcrumbs · 16/05/2014 15:57

Funnyfoot love it!

I seem to do well on drinks: I've had a number of bartenders at cocktail bars rustle me up some lovely off-menu non-alcoholic cocktails when asked, but my favourite was when I was out for dinner with friends recently, who were all drinking wine whilst I wearily asked for a lime and soda. I was then presented with an extremely elaborate lime and soda in a fancy glass garnished with half a fruit bowl.

Getting off the plane at Rotterdam airport at 34+3 and my last flight of the pregnancy, there was a wheelchair waiting for me and I was pushed the whole way through the terminal to the exit Grin it wasn't necessary but a lovely gesture by the cabin crew to arrange.

Also arriving at City airport and getting on a packed DLR I was given a seat by someone.

FoodieMum3 · 16/05/2014 16:42

I've found that people (family mostly) are just so positive and nice, and very supportive. Some of them have said things that were so kind and I don't think they've realised how much it has meant to me.

Babies are such a blessing.

Free drinks YY, ended up at a few proper parties while noticeably pregnant and got some exciting mocktails made for me.

I always like how it was the 'hoodie' teenager on public transport who would offer you a seat, so much for their bad reputation - I can remember how common it was that the moment I even stepped onto the Tube some teenager with jeans around his knees and massive headphones would leap to his feet at once.

I also remember having a lovely chat with a complete stranger in town on my due date. I'd only moved to that town a few weeks earlier and didn't know anyone, and an older lady just started chatting to me at a pedestrian crossing, asking when I was due etc, wished me all the best. She was very nice.

Two people let me jump the toilet queue in different places this week! And when at the theatre with a lot of stairs to climb to get to where we were sitting, a nice man told me to take my time when someone else behind me was huffing and puffing when I stopped a couple of times.

mssleepyhead · 16/05/2014 16:57

I work in a school and had to disclose my pregnancy at just 7 weeks because of an early trip to the EPU. The cover office who arranged someone to cover my lessons obviously found out through the paperwork and haven't said anything but have barely given me an hour of cover since. I love them for it.

On Christmas Eve, in Sainsbury's car park, in a middle of a hideous downpour I realised I had no money for a parking ticket machine and the ATM machine was out of cash. I was the size of a walrus and moving very slowly back towards a car when a kind woman gave me a pound for the machine. I cried with happiness and felt like I had just won the Lotto.
Ah, the kindness of strangers...

whiteblossom · 16/05/2014 17:22

I was given free parking though he said that it was because I was a 'nice lady' so not sure if that counts? Smile

coldofhands · 16/05/2014 18:54

Every time someone has given me a seat on a bus or train I've been overwhelmingly grateful. It really is the little things that have made a difference.

And with one week to go until mat leave, yesterday a man at Waterloo looked at me wearily eyeing up some stairs and asked if he could take my bag for me. I politely thanked him but said not to worry, and he told me not to be so polite and carried it all the way down. I could have kissed him!

Also my Mum phones me to let me know that a pot of Sudocreme or similar just fell into her shopping trolley each week and she doesn't know how it keeps happening, but it's best she keeps them for the baby! Makes me smile every time.

VJONES1985 · 16/05/2014 20:09

This week, after more 'hilarious' comments at work about the size of my bump, my friend (who is also a colleague), text me to say that in her eyes, I get even more beautiful the bigger my bump gets. That was a kind act that made me smile :-)

redrum29 · 17/05/2014 11:26

the immigration officer who steered me to the front of a VERY long queue. My quickest visit there yet. But gosh i was red with embarrassment in front of the other queue-ees..

ToodlesMcToodles · 17/05/2014 11:33

My next door neighbour scraped the ice off my car windscreen for me. I still grin when I remember that though kept insisting it wasn't necessary at the time. It was hard getting to the middle bit with a huge bump Grin

DorotheaHomeAlone · 17/05/2014 11:34

Seats on the tube, extra size portions 'for the baby', shop people and randoms wishing me well. Lots of nice stuff so far. Helps make up for all the self-involved people who don't offer a seat or who barge past you as you waddle awkwardly along. Funny thing about London, I guess. More people means more lovely people and also more arses!

Mintberrycrunch · 17/05/2014 22:43

today, at lidl, there was only 2 checkouts open, with queues, hubby said start queuing whilst he went to get crisps, and an assistant came up and said im opening at the first till and helped me unload my trolley, i felt really embarrassed as my husband and bloody disappeared for ages choosing a packet of crisps, as he should have been helping.

Over in italy they are really good when your showing, alot of places, post office, some supermarkets and shops, pregnant women have priority and dont have to queue or have a special queue for disabled and pregnant women.
