Sea Bands for nausea

beebop100 · 15/05/2014 17:45

I'm 9 weeks and have had horrible, constant nausea. I've pretty much lay on the sofa for 2 weeks. I ventured out to Tesco on Monday and ended up in tears because I felt faint and everything smelt really strong and I thought I was going to throw up. I bought Sea Bands for £1.50 online, they have 90% cured my nausea! Everyone kept telling me to eat ginger but I feel like that would have made me feel worse. I saw that the NHS also recommends Sea Bands, I'm so so so glad I gave them a try, I feel like I can leave the house. I was really sceptical about them working, but wanted to share how effective they've been for me in case anyone else is suffering.

Ginger does not work!!!

It does not!! It is a total lie and if one more person tells me to try it, they will feel the full force of my pregnancy hormones!!

Glad the sea bands are working for you :)

I wear the travel bands. They're the only thing that curbs my nausea. I wore them everyday all day until around 3-4 months. They're brilliant. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so :)

Mumto3dc · 15/05/2014 18:06

I've been using sea bands too and they definitely reduce the nausea.
I took them off for a day to test and felt awful!

Polkadotscarf · 15/05/2014 18:11

I tried the sea bands but found I was still sick in the morning, does anyone wear them over night? I really need advice in reducing the sickness, 15 weeks and no signs of it stopping!

beebop100 · 15/05/2014 18:13

I'm just really shocked how different I feel, they're my new best friends. I had to take them off to shower and I really didn't want to. Glad I'm not the only one they work for, think my husband thinks it's a placebo effect but he has no idea how horrible that constant nausea is, I didn't just decide to not feel like death today.

Polkadotscarf, I wear mine overnight. Poor you still feeling it at 15 weeks!

I wore them 24/7 for quite a while (cant remember how long exactly). Would only take them off to shower and would start to feel nauseous again. It does go though! Now 29 weeks and not needed them for a while.

MultipleMama · 15/05/2014 19:37

I wore them overnight. I took them off for an maybe 30 minutes every day just to give my pressure points and wrists a break. I found them uncomfortable to wear at first because they felt weird but afterwards I just got used to them.

Mumto3dc · 15/05/2014 20:22

I wear them through the night. I only take them off to shower or if they start to dig in too much!

2014MrsH · 15/05/2014 20:33

I've been wearing sea bands since my 7th week except at night and feel sooo much better for it. I get my husband to push down on the pressure points when I feel especially nauseaus and it seems to help.

Ginger didn't work for me either

livingzuid · 15/05/2014 20:44

polka be wary that you don't have hypermesis which is extreme nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and can last the whole nine months if normal methods of controlling sickness don't work for you. Check out the hypermesis thread for more info and links.

MrsMonkeyBear · 15/05/2014 21:24

I wore mine day and night. 17 weeks now and I swear that they got me thru the first trimester. Still wear them if travelling long distances especially in my dads car, he'd kill me if I puked in it

LostTeacher · 15/05/2014 21:27

I even wore mine in the shower! They never came off until about 4 months.

BikeRunSki · 15/05/2014 21:32

I tried them. Didn't work. Still had hyperemisis in both pg.

beebop100 · 16/05/2014 07:09

Yeah, I don't think they'd help with hyperemesis but for the normal pregnancy nausea they're worth a shot.

Thank you, will try over night.
Have called midwife team but they don't seem too worried, I'm attached to water or coconut water at the mo to keep fluid levels up! I have 16 week appointment in just over a week (at 17 weeks!) so will hopefully get some advise then although I really hope it's gone by then!

livingzuid · 17/05/2014 09:08

polka you need to go to your GP about the nausea. The good thing is that you're keeping fluids down but malnutrition can be just as serious (not wanting to alarm you but just to be safe you should keep an eye on it).

NICE guidelines on treatment here:

cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

And support sites here:

sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/

www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/

The nausea can be just as debilitating as vomiting. Good luck Thanks

livingzuid · 17/05/2014 09:09

aargh why not working! Trying again or just copy and paste:

cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

livingzuid · 17/05/2014 09:10

Sigh. Copy and paste into your browser, no idea why that isn't working. You can print it off and take it to your GP in case they are one of the unfortunate ones who are difficult about medication in pregnancy. It's perfectly safe to use the medications described on the NICE guidelines.

alwaysblonde · 17/05/2014 22:44

Nothing worked for me :-(

Though hubby is a medic doing a masters and one of the pieces of literature he had to analyse was that ginger is scientifically proven to prevent nausea. I was dubious!

It worked for me for about 10 seconds and I felt sick again.

Couldn't get on with the bands. Lemon and tangy things took my mind off it.
