Immediately after... shocked & shaky!

That night, too excited to sleep, kept staring at my baby!

Next couple of days, tired but on a high.

Day three, teary! Cried. A lot.

Day four, on cloud nine.

Physically, had a waterbirth, no tearing or stitches so felt great!

Glad you asked. No-one talks about this and they should. i was delighted with the baby but how I felt physically... in agony!
I felt, honestly: humiliated, disappointed that I hadn't been able to cope with the pain, sore.
The lochia is pretty gross. The stitches hurt like hell (hard to move). My back was very painful, breasts sore from breastfeeding... and exhausted.
It's 4 months later now and I feel... almost normal. But not. It takes time, and no-one warns you of that.
But the baby is wonderful!

DS1 wrecked, over whelmed, tearful, unbelieving I actually had a baby

DS2 post natal diagnosis of Down syndrome - total shock

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 15/05/2014 22:28

I had a 10lb baby, so quite a big bump, and yes... it felt so empty afterwards! But I also felt so chuffed that baby was here & safe, and I felt quite kick ass that I'd squeezed out a big baby on gas & air Grin

Enjoy those early days, and remember the camera!!! (We forgot)

"As i think im going to miss feeling pregnant"

You won't. It was such a relief to be able to lie down comfortably without the weight of the bump. Also, I could eat properly again. The bump took up so much of my stomach cavity that I felt full after a few mouthfuls. It was a joy to be able to eat a plate of food without feeling uncomfortably full.

With Dd1 I felt over the moon literally!! It wasn't until I got home with our bundle of joy that I felt that way tho , my overnight stay in hospital was a bit daunting!! I don't think I slept properly for days, not because baby kept crying but because I was on such a high!! I'd do it all again in a heartbeat xx

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/05/2014 22:59

Being able to sleep on my front again and also not have indigestion was amazing.

NutellaLawson · 15/05/2014 23:08

after ds1 I was too weak to do anything, even eat. Long labour of three days. I had complications afterwards so was tired, tearful and in pain for several months pp. That's quite unusual, though.

ds2 was a quick and easy birth and I was on cloud 9 for two days. then baby blues hit (totally normal. It's the hormone crash and means the milk will come in on the next 24hrs).

Don't freak out if you can't stop crying on day 2, 3 or 4. It means you're milk will be in tomorrow. It also often coincides with the baby suddenly wanting to feed every ten minutes all night. they've had colostrum but now want milk and the frequent suckling encourages it to come in.

Ds1 -in a lot of pain because they forgot to turn off the syntocin drip!

Ds2- absolutely fine and up within the hour

Dd1- elated at 12 minute labour then when my body caught up, I went into shock, tears an all Shock

I was too shattered too remember much however what I do remember maybe a day or 2 after coming home was sadness at not being pregnant anymore. I didn't expect it at all!!

Aleksandra034 · 19/05/2014 21:24

With DD, labour lasted in total from Sun morning till Wed morning, the last 20 hours being very intensive. Needless to say, I felt like I had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Almost broken, both physically and emotionally. But still, now, when I think back to those days and weeks that followed, it seems like pure magic - an incredible time that you can never get back, ah!
With DS, labour was 12 hours but only the last 2 hours were intensive. I didn't have any pain relief and I went home 3 hours after delivery. I felt really, really good, my body felt strong and I didn't even get the blues at all (did for almost a week with DD).
So, it depends on a lot of things, the chief amongst them being how many times you have done this before, possibly.
But worry not, even if you feel a bit battered you WILL be able to cope, the body is an amazing machine and your deepest instincts will guide you and help you out. And then it will get better, and easier. And you will remember those times and sigh.....(feeling desperately broody for no. 3, as you may have noticed)
