dry retching :(

am 15wks and have had MS since about week 6/7. It's mostly been nausea but I have on occasion thrown up. It got a bit better around week 10 but seems to have come back again - now with added heartburn - but now instead of throwing up, I just seem to get sudden episodes of retching. It's always first thing, just after a shower/while I'm getting ready in the morning, and it'll come from nowhere.

The most horrid thing about it is that I don't bring anything up, it's about 30/60 seconds of gut wrenching heaving, and eventually a little bile will come up - sorry, TMI - and then it'll pass. Leaves me feeling awful and covered in small red dots under my eyes and around my neck, from the straining. I've always got this when I throw up, but it lasts days. 30 seconds and the results last days :(((

Anyone else get this? I thought it was supposed to get better after 12/13 weeks? :(( By this time with DS I was starting to glow!!!

Oh gosh I remember this, I hated it so much. Every morning without fail and uncontrollable as well my eyes would water and my throat was sore :-(

Mine started at week 7 as well and after a couple of vomiting bugs in week 15/16 is was all gone so hopefully it won't be long for you now. I found sipping water as soon as I got up helped as was so much worse when I was hungry.

Ilovebean · 15/05/2014 08:35

I have this as well :-( and I'm sorry to say at 32 weeks it's still not gone away. It's awful.

VJONES1985 · 15/05/2014 09:37

Same here. Began at 8 weeks and I was sick maybe six times throughout the first tri but the dry heaving has continued and I still have it now, at 26 weeks. Sorry!

Cuppachaplz · 15/05/2014 17:57

I get this every time I brush my teeth. And course what does one want to do after retching up a little bile, yup, you got it, and on the cycle goes.
Incidentally, have quite sever nausea and vomiting at other times, and I feel quite different then.
Hate it, you have my sympathy x

CoolCat2014 · 15/05/2014 18:08

I had that till about 20wks. If I drank a glass of water first thing I'd bring it up, which at least seemed better than the dry retching :/

Heatherbell1978 · 15/05/2014 19:35

I had this from wk 5 to 13. The minute I sat up in bed in the morning I started to heave. Then would retch over the toilet for about 10 mins, never any vomit. In fact I did throw up a few times but in week 12, just before it ended. Glad that's over.

Mummytobeforthefirsttime · 15/05/2014 22:00

Hi I had this very early on, and sometimes still get it first thing in the morning when brushing my teeth or when I'm in the shower. I'm now 29 weeks!

amy246 · 16/05/2014 08:47

I had this every morning until about week 22. I found that eating as soon as I wake helped as an empty stomach made it worse. I just learnt to get on with it and even tried to laugh at myself to make me feel better about it

LottyLikesWindows · 16/05/2014 17:14

Good grief, I've totally forgotten about this little gem. Isn't Mother Nature kind to erase that hideous memory! I had this for quite some time - was also vomiting until around 20 week mark. As awful as it was then I hope you can have some consolation in knowing that this too shall pass soon.

babymouse · 16/05/2014 19:45

Try drinking some apple juice if you are going to dry heave. It will hurt less coming up, doesn't taste too bad on the return journey and will help your sugar levels.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 16/05/2014 23:51

Am 33+1 and still doing this. Its worse than actual vomiting! I have given up brushing teeth at night and now just floss.

I also try and make sure my bladder is empty as soon as I feel the heave begin. not pleasant.

Hopefully yours will ease up soon.

Hellymummy · 17/05/2014 00:14

Oh god yeah I had this, very nasty! I had it til about week 20! It was awful, had to carry little bags round everywhere with me just incase anything came up! I always found I got it if I was hungry, so I I hadn't eaten much and my belly was empty then I would get it!

allisgood1 · 17/05/2014 00:23

Yup. It's all I had, no actual vomiting. Thank god though because 1) I'm scared to death if vomiting and 2) no dehydration or too much weight loss to deal with. It's not fun but it does pass. Mine was over around 17 weeks (but seldom after around 14 weeks).

CatFaceCrayola · 17/05/2014 21:49

I've been suffering from this and I'm only 9 weeks so praying it buggers off. My sides/stomach/back/throat are so sore from the retching.
I keep a bottle of flat pop by the loo and sipping it sometimes helps me.

not enjoyable though.

I actually threw up the other day and was surprisingly glad for it!

Yourmentalhealthmatters2017 · 30/03/2018 17:47

Oh reading these comments I now think I'm 5 weeks pregnant
Anyone recommendation of a early pregnancy test please?

paperplant · 30/03/2018 20:49

i had a bit of retching bile in the mornings around 15 weeks. Having a glass of milk after my nightly loo break seemed to do the trick, maybe it was the empty stomach?

also get this while brushing teeth, and sometimes randomly.

Yourmentalhealthmatters2017 · 02/04/2018 14:23

I am still putting off doing the test 🙁

Loosemoose28 · 02/04/2018 17:23

Mines come back at 37 weeks mainly with braxton hicks Sad

Pumkins · 02/04/2018 19:08

I had exactly the same thing. Horrendous! Started around 8 weeks and lasted until I was 5 months then lessened. To cope I had to ban curries from the house, change fabric conditionner, ans have a small snack (cereal with milk worked well for me) during my nightly loo trip.
Unfortunately didnt stop it completely but helped a little. I would wretch every morning and whenever I felt the slightest hunger and in the bad days would vomit between 2 and 6 times a day Confused

Forget about the bloody ginger, you will need to figure out your smell nemesis and eat little and often.
