How do you know which position the baby is in towards the end of pregnancy?
I really want to beable to do this myself, so that I can get the baby into a good position.
My hospital is not very helpful, since they think it is not important, because they want me to have "elective" c-section.

Why do they want you to have a c section? If they advise you to have a section they must have a good reason for it - that doesn't mean you have to follow their advice.
Midwives/drs tell how the baby is lying by feeling your tummy and lots of practice. Its not always 100% accurate though and the best way to tell the position would be a scan.
Just have a feel of your tummy when you're lying down on the bed or sofa - you should be able to feel 2 hard bits - 1 will be bigger and softer - thats the bum, 1 will be smaller and harder -thats the head. . It should be down just above your bikini line so that the head is the first bit that enters the birth canal when labour starts.
There are lots of sites on the internet giving advice about getting your baby into a good position - I don't think many are based on more than anecdotal evidence, but that is no reason not to give it a try.
If your baby is breech or transverse the hospital should offer to try and turn the baby for you - ECV - it isn't always successful though, and even if it is the baby might turn back into a less good position.
p.s I'm not a midwife or an expert

they want me to have a c-section, because I have had two c-sections already, I am not keen on that though, unless it is life and death, and I absolutely have to.
I really wish I cuold tell what position the baby is in by myself.

Your midwife should be writing down what she thinks is the babies position on your notes
