Oh good list Strawberry - what's a latch assist?

strawberryjam · 14/05/2014 21:04

It is a little device that sucks the nipple out to encourage a better latch - I had a poor bf experience last time and been suggested it might help

Suzietwo · 14/05/2014 21:12

La la la la la

Please stop being organised people.

Purplehonesty · 14/05/2014 21:15

Huge pants! Like four sizes bigger than you are and granny style ;)

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/05/2014 21:18

you cannot wear pyjama bottoms with a catheter - my MW wouldn't let me, and to be fair all the tubes are rather confusing with the bed side rails as it is without threading into legs...

best to take 1/2 nighties for 1st day with catheter in situ

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/05/2014 21:21

take some baby blankets of different weights too

I ended up next to a window and the ward got hot; so the MW opened the window = nice breeze for everyone apart from me, chilled by a bracing draft Hmm

glad I took my own baby blankets, as ringing the bell for a MW to obtain a blanket could take 30-40 mins...

BikeRunSki · 14/05/2014 21:22

Water bottle with sports cap, so you can drink lying down.
Shower gel with a hook (Radox do one)
Shoes you can put on without leaning down

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/05/2014 21:23

if you pay for hospital TV that's great
if you refuse to, like me, keep eye on the screen as they do free mornings some weeks, having tv was very comforting while trying to latch on a baby

Grin ah it's such an exciting time

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/05/2014 21:25

towels!

you'll need towels - for the shower.
my 1st shower I gathered everything when dh arrived, and had a shower.
and discovered I hadn't taken my towel into the bathroom.
had to dry myself with hand towels

Food! You won't be able to get up for up to 24 hours depending on when you have the section and I was starving - especially as I'd had no breakfast. You get a cup of tea a while after and then some toast but if it's evening by then it's nothing till the next morning. I took some bananas and chocolate digestives as easy snacking food.

Oh and if you have room some sort of body mitt. I was covered with pink sterilising wash which took some getting off.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 14/05/2014 21:27

packs of quavers/ fabulous crisps for 3am when you are STARVING.

and choc bars. lots of inbetween meals food, tbh, keep morale up.

strawberryjam · 14/05/2014 21:33

My last section I had at 2230, up and out of bed by 0900 and catheter out by midday, hoping for swift recovery this time!

hubbahubster · 14/05/2014 22:06

Last time the catheter came out the next day, while I was still in my gown from theatre. I got dressed in my own clothes (pj bottoms and top) the next day, once I could stand. My second ELCS is a week tomorrow and I'll be taking:

For me:
Full briefs a size bigger than usual
2 x pj bottoms
4 x vest tops (got so sweaty last time)
Peppermint tea for post-op wind plus cereal bars for emergency snacks
Wash bag with toiletries (usual stuff plus dry shampoo) and make-up bag
Flip flops
Phone charger and phone

For baby:
4 x white sleepsuits with built-in scratch mitts
1 x hat
4 x vest suits
1 x cute going home outfit
2 x cardigans
1 x pack of nappies
1 x pack of cotton wool
1 x pack of muslins

Anything I've forgotten, DH or visitors will be able to bring in. They'll also be bringing in all my meals as food was shocking last time, I barely ate which didn't help recovery or BF!

peeapod · 15/05/2014 04:52

Check what your hospitals policy is with a c section. Mine only had the ability to store a s.all holdall whilst on theatre with nothing valuable. I packed in 2 stages. Stuff for theatre then a ward bag which had been given to my first visitors. A dressing gown and slippers are essential as is things to make you feel more you. My mp3 player and my teddy bear kept me going. We took 4 hours to get to theatre so take something to do. Not to complicated though as your mind will be nymb. Hope this helps.

CorporeSarnie · 15/05/2014 07:27

Maternity pads... They will give you some and change them for you whilst immobile and catheterized, but I was in hospital for another night after being able to get up. Although lochia is likely to be lighter following CS, I still bled for a while.
You may well be in a gown for the first night, then you will need some pjs or whatever. Buy dark coloured ones in case of a leak.
Don't bring Original Source minty shower gel. I had a mini bottle and thought that would be ideal for my hospital bag. It fing stings like f!
Shower flip flops which double as slippers and bathroom wipes in case the bathroom is dirty were also in my bag. Last thing I wanted was to pick up a foot fungus or tummy bug.
I found hospital food fine and there was always tea and toast available, but a little chocolate was nice.

kiwiscantfly · 15/05/2014 07:38

Thanks everyone, I'm having my ELCS Tuesday so I guess it's just about time to pack. You'd think having done this before I'd know what to take, but nope, my mind is blank. The only thing I really remember is eating homemade cookies at 3am, so will be baking on Sunday for sure. I think they were the best thing I've ever eaten!

turdfairynomore · 15/05/2014 07:48

Take only what you can hold in your hand in shower eg combined.shampoo/gel as if you drop something or it falls off shower shelf then it's gone as it's impossible to pick up by yourself!!

peeapod · 15/05/2014 08:16

yes to the shower gel. you get some medicated stuff which is a lot better. but to be honest its probably going to be the worst shower you have with regards to cleanliness but the best in terms of feeling better
