5am wake up ... Arghhh!

If anyone is awake and reading this then I know I'm not alone!
In 5weeks +5 and for the last week I've been waking up at 5am, pretty much like clockwork! One day was 4.30 but apart from that you could set your watch by me.
And when I'm awake... I'm awake! Try as I might I can't get back to sleep. So I'm flagging throughout the day and crying out for my bed from about 9.30 but have family staying (who don't know) so have to stay up and be the dutiful host. Stressed much??
Now I do have a knowledge of hormones and that it's my pesky adrenals who are to blame... But what I wanted to ask of you lovely ladies is your tips and tricks of falling back to sleep / coping with the waking... Should any exist!

In anticipation... X

I don't have any tips only sympathy! I'm 32 weeks and been awful all through pregnancy normally 3am... all I can suggest is not going on Mobile phone- wakes up entirely or sometimes trying to read sends me to sleep. ..

I had this, exactly the same! Still happens now quite a lot and I'm 16 weeks.

I found a cure in the end... Which was to eat something! Works every time now :)

Oh how I feel for you! I'm only 4+6 and already I'm sleep deprived. I didn't sleep much pre-pregnancy but now that is even less!

My tip, which you can't really follow as you have company, is to go to bed when your body needs it in the evening. Even if it's 7pm. I tried staying up later, fighting my body, and I'd invariably wake up at 5.30.

The worst is at the weekend. I have to get up early for work so it's no problem. But at the weekend, I like to catch up with sleep!

Thank God for mumsnet!

Good practice for when the baby is here, my ds was up at 4am today! :)

trying29 · 11/05/2014 08:31

I've had this for two weeks now and am 6+2. There are only two days I have slept past 6am. One thing that has helped a tiny bit is to not drink too much before bed to cut down how much you need to wee at night. I have to say this is gonna be so hard to manage through the whole 9 months though!

RAFWife12 · 11/05/2014 08:32

I had this problem, then it got better, now I am up at around 3am every day! Sometimes I get back to sleep - but then I don't want to get up when I actually have to for work!
No real advice, I just stay in bed and read on my kindle till I fall back asleep. I find if I just lay there I get more and more awake. Reading sends me off to sleep again.

5am sounds lovely... With DC1 I woke every three hours on the dot pretty much before I even knew I was pg. This time I was ok until five months-ish, now I wake at least three times a night... And then DC1 wakes up at 6.30 and I don't get much chance for a lie-in.

No ideas on how to fix it, just sympathy! Planning what I'm going to wear the next day seems to help me get back to sleep...

I found the early pregnancy insomnia eased, but was then replaced by the need to get up a couple of times to pee.

Redling · 11/05/2014 12:38

I wake up every two hours or so and have done all the way through, some nights I just go to the loo and back to sleep, sometimes I'm awake for an hour or so before I can sleep. It's a pain but I'm viewing it as practise for baby, I mean let's face it, we know we aren't going to sleep again for a while when they are born, right?!

StrawberryTartYum · 11/05/2014 12:39

I feel for you, I used to just try and go with what my wanted regarding sleeping and eating but of course if you work thats easier said than done! Funny thing is I used to always wake at 5.30am for the bathroom while pregnant and DS wakes for a feed like clockwork every morning at 5.40am!

Woodl3s · 11/05/2014 20:08

Me too! I'm usually awake around 5am and then try to doze, convince myself that at least half hour has passed, when actually its only been 10 mins! And that happens until my alarm goes off for work at 6.30am or when DP alarm goes off for work at 7.30am (whichever is first). Drives me mad!
I find it helps having a nap during the day, or at least a bit of 'me' time, where cuddle up in bed with a book or a film. I'm not one for napping, but I've really needed to these past couple of weeks.
Also, I'm on my feet with my job (I'm a support worker), so find sitting down for 5 min rests every hour or so (sometimes every half hour) really helps.

Boogles91 · 11/05/2014 22:22

It should pass in the 2nd tri, it did for me! But i still woke up nearly every hour for the toilet! Its getting worse now im in the 3rd and hes big lol i go for a pee, get all nice and comfy then he rolls onto me bladder and i need to go again! X

ralv · 12/05/2014 06:36

Thanks for all your advice ladies. I think just talking about it helped as this morning was a 6am wake up ! Much more civilised :)

I was fine in early pregnancy. 22 weeks now and you can set your watch by my 6am wakings.

Bizarre, I've always been a 12 hours a night if I don't set an alarm person. I guess it's natures preparation....

Dd has me up at anytime between 5-7, its practice for you ;)
