Hi there
I hope this post makes sense and I don't sound silly! Basically I'm 20w5 days, I'm a big girl so I've no defined bump yet and as my first pregnancy I'm not 100% sure if i can feel baby moving. I've suffered from literal morning sickness all the way through and for the last 6 weeks at least have had what I can only imagine is stretching pains around my girl parts and my hips! Woke up a few days ago and I've just lost all symptoms! This has me really worried even though we heard the heartbeat at just over 17 weeks and I've had no other types of pain etc. I suppose it doesn't help that there's another first time mum at work who's rather thin and 6 weeks behind me but says she's been feeling the baby move since 10 weeks and has a few other preg symptoms! Do you think there could be anything wrong or am I just being a drama llama and my body's stretched enough for now? Got my scan this time next week and can't help but be full of fear rather than excited Hmm thanks for reading if you managed to get to the end Envy

www.nct.org.uk/pregnancy/22weeks

Around this time, many women start feeling much better!

In terms of movement, many women feel nothing or not much until 22-24 weeks, as far as I can tell where the placenta is, and the mum's weight etc' can be a factor but midwives don't worry until 24 weeks.
I had movement which I did not feel during my 20 week scan: could see her moving, felt nothing - so your scan may reassure you!

As for your friend Hmm let's look at a 10 week embryo/foetus:
www.babycentre.co.uk/10-weeks-pregnant
There seems to be a trend to say you've felt the baby really early these days. I have to say the earliest I've heard that's credible was 13 weeks on a second baby where the mum knew what to feel for!
Your friend, I would say, is exaggerating.
Actually my MW gets very cross about this as she says it causes maternal anxiety and tears before scans, it's very selfish when women do it...

:)

That all sounds normal, try not to worry. It's not unusual not to feel movements until after 20 weeks, particularly if you are well-padded or have a anterior placenta (which they'll tell you at the scan) and your MS was overdue for disappearing!
There's always someone to tell you they felt their baby moving at 10 days post-ov and get you worried. Good luck for your scan!

I really doubt your colleague felt her baby move at 10 weeks! The baby is the size of a grape at that point and has tiny stunted arms and legs. More likely she felt wind.

I had hardly any symptoms with my first pregnancy, and didn't feel any movement until 23 weeks. It was a perfectly healthy twin pregnancy! The position of your placenta has an enormous effect on when you feel movement - if it is at the front then it cushions all movement and it'll take a stronger (older) baby to make you feel it. Excess weight might also pad things a bit and make it harder to feel.

Try not to compare your pregnancy with anyone else's, and try to relax. If you get very concerned, give your midwife a ring - she might be able to fit in an appointment and check baby's heartbeat :)

Good luck!

Thank you :)

Yes I know the girl I work with is probably talking out of her bum, usually i'd ignore her, but its been one of those weak moments where ive let my mind spiral! I should be relieved that im not in agony just climbing out of bed, instead it feels like im missing something! My 12 week scan showed an anterior placenta, so im hoping its stayed put and thats why i dont feel much! This being pregnant thing is not easy!! Thank you though :)

Hi! I'm 19+2 with my first and have the same anxiety.

I've also been quite sick too and I'm not that small either pre pg bmi of 26.

Anyway I'm not sure if I'm feeling anything. Not actual kicks but I have very occasional feelings like wind but the bubbles feel smaller. I know that sounds strange it's also not as strong as wind would normally feel.and it's not even once a day.I'm not sure if that describes the first feeling you'd get st this stage. I worried too as I'm sure babycentre said id be feeling something weeks ago but I delete their email now as it wasn't helping my anxiety.

I also don't have a definite bump. Someone did comment the other day but I think that was the cut of my outfit I'm in mat clothes to be comfy but I saw a pic taken the other day and I just look fat! Despite the fact I've only gained half a kilo.

My thoughts are my next apt is on Tuesday so not long to wait anyway. Good luck op. I think your colleague might be mistaken too. People do say silly things like those wearing maternity clothes at 5 weeks or knowing the sex at 8. It's all a bit bonkers!

I felt early movement (11 or 12 weeks) with my second pregnancy, but only when I was wearing trousers or something else constricting on my bump and only because I knew exactly what I was feeling for. Also, DS was a massive baby. This one is my third, I'm just 20 weeks now, and I've only really been feeling movements for a week. I was a bit worried, I won't lie, but I was able to check with the doppler and hear the heartbeat.

I was also in mat clothes at six weeks, but seriously, you would not BELIEVE the bloat in the first tri this time round. It was so uncomfortable to be in normal jeans! Oddly I have a very defined bump and have for a while, but I'm not in any way what you'd call slim. Different babies, different bumps.

She really couldn't feel the baby moving at 10 weeks! She probably has terrible wind Grin

Anterior placenta really does affect the amount of movement you feel. This middle bit of pg can feel a bit surreal I think - don't look pg, don't feel pg, can't feel baby etc I kept expecting someone to tell me I'd dreamt the whole thing!

Don't panic...I'm 20 plus 3. Ive had twins before and sure I could feel them moving a lot more than this one (probably as there were 2).
Mine goes through phases of being active where I can feel him a lot, and then nothing for a few days.
I had my scan last Sunday and I didnt feel him at all for a few days before, so was really apprehensive but the scan was fine and he was wriggling about all over the place.
I mentioned to my midwife about the lack of movement (and sporadic movement) and she said its not unusual to not feel them at 20 weeks as they have a lot of room to move about in !
