3D scan - would you recommend?

I'm pretty certain this will be our last baby, I'm almost 22 weeks with DC3.

Torn on whether or not to book a 3D scan (at roughly 28 weeks). My reasons are probably ridiculous - I feel slightly uneasy about 'seeing' the baby before birth (not even sure if I can explain why)! and I have always thought the pictures that I've seen look a little 'odd' (really sorry if that offends anyone) but now I am thinking that surely I would feel completely different if it was my own baby, and think they're the most beautiful thing ever, just like I do when they're newborns!

What do you all think?

It's not for me, I see it as a complete waste of money and I agree, the photos are pretty bloody weird.

We were shown one when we had our twenty week scan and asked if we wanted a copy of the photo. My husband said it looked like the baby was made out of melted cheese, and this is all I think now when I see them. We didn't get a photo... My actual baby does not look like melted cheese either.

Personally, I think it's a bit weird to call them 'bonding scans', as if you won't be able to do it otherwise. It just feels like a way of extorting money for not much in return. However, now that I've been relentlessly negative, if you want to do it, then there's no harm.

I had 3D scans but didn't have to pay extra (or indeed anything) for them and didn't even ask for them (am abroad). I have the DVD. There was a moment when DD1 seemed to look up and smile at us. I know she didn't smile, but her mouth went into a smily position at the right time. It was pretty cool. But I wouldn't have paid extra for a 3d scan. It was fun but we were lucky to get a nice shot. When DD2 was being scanned we couldn't make much out at all at 20, 24 and 28 weeks.

Thanks ladies, my thoughts exactly.

I got a deal for a 3d scan with my last pregnancy and although I wasn't bothered by the pics as they do look weird - it did make the baby feel more real if that makes any sense! Plus it was great for my husband - he was completely besotted and in love with our little one from that point on much more than before - again because it just made it more real and we got to spend a lot longer looking at her without all the serious measurements and checks taking place

If you can get it free of cheap why not!?
