31 weeks Kicks felt in bottom,is baby breach? Will it turn?

I've been experiencing baby movements and kicks what feels like in my bottom and base of my spine, at my last midwife appointment baby was very low and head down and I could tell it was low as it felt like I did late in pregnancy with DD1. But it doesn't feel low anymore and I don't feel like it did a few weeks ago when I was examined.

I have been on the dreaded internet and with what others have experienced with the same movements it looks like baby may now be breach...... I do not see my midwife for another few weeks. What should I do? Is there a chance if baby is breach it could still turn? Is there anything I can do to try and encourage baby to be the right way ready for birth.

DD1 started her journey into this world 10days early back to back so I'm worried if this is No2 and position is not right I could have a horrendous time again :( if No2 comes into this world early like DD1.

Thanks for your time in reading post & thoughts in advance, I'm just really worried. I assume if baby is breach it will be a section but as I don't see midwife until 34weeks it seems a little long to wait and discuss this, all I feel I can do is try not to worry, and hope I'm wrong about what I've read, but 2nd time I feel you already know what could be ahead, as with No1 I had this crazy idea I would just breath deeply and pop baby would come out -how silly was I??!!?? :D

31 weeks is still plenty of time to turn. And it could be punches you're feeling, not kicks....
I think it's about 36 weeks that decision about delivery are made based on presentation. It is usual (though not mandatory!) to have a caesarean for breech but the options/risks will be discussed with you should that be the case. There are also ways of trying to get the baby to turn, from positioning thru acupuncture to ECV.
Don't few just yet and try to enjoy the last few weeks of being able to move/breathe/be vaguely comfortable is any position (assuming you still can :-) ).

Mine was breach at 30 weeks and midwife wasn't concerned at all. He turned head down just before 32 weeks but he feels sideways now! Don't worry about it just yet.

Agree dont worry yet. Plenty of time for baby to turn. Recall spinning babies website has some positions/exercises to try to help baby shift position.

As pp said its usually at 36 weeks where they will scan you if there is any doubt. I would urge you to stick to your guns though if you feel baby is still wrong way round by that stage - I kept telling midwife ds was kicking me down into my bottom & they didnt listen, lo & behold at 39 weeks we discovered he was breech. Even that close to full term we were still offered options of ECV & induction or ELCS so don't assume section is automatic. Hth.

DC2 is breech and has been pretty much the whole time (now 36 weeks). Her kicks feel more like tickles/crunches in my hips, and I can definitely feel head and shoulders up below my boobs.

frogem366 · 07/05/2014 19:47

Oh hubbahubster I feel for you, hope it all goes ok on the day. Are you electing for a C section ?

Also have an extra lobe of placenta across my cervix so have to have an ELCS anyway! Baby's position (she's transverse too) hasn't been the deciding factor.

Otherwise this pg has been easier and more comfortable than my last, and he was head down! The toes crunching in my hips is a very strange sensation though...

hubbahubster · 07/05/2014 20:10

Oh, DC1 was also born by ELCS (low placenta again) and it was absolutely fine, so I'm not worried. ELCS are v different to EMCS from what I've been told.

I feel jabs in my bum to, but midwife reckons she is head down(ish). I reckon it's punches I'm getting, could be the same for you. Although if it isn't there is time for your LO to turn.

WoodBurnerBabe · 07/05/2014 20:16

I had all movement very low down, they turned out to be punches and she was born both hands first

frogem366 · 09/05/2014 11:03

Thank you ladies I'm feeling much happier now, I will mention it when I next see midwife, but sounds like I have been spending too much time on Dr Google!! The one place no one should look if they have concerns!

Good lunch ladies when you time comes and enjoy your little ones :-)

I'm 32 weeks and baby is breech. Does anyone else think the movements where the head is so high are really painful? The last few days it's head has been sticking right out my side and front, it's really sore! Not sure it meant to hurt this much!!

theborrower · 18/05/2014 22:19

My first was undiagnosed breech (ie only discovered when in labour, so had an EMCS) and obviously I can't be sure but I think she was breech for a while because she had hip dysplasia and her kicks were always low down (midwife told me it was hands).

This time, baby has mostly been head down at examinations, which midwife seems happy about (I'm 33 weeks), but baby still moves a lot because I can feel when she/he is breech because the head is like a hard rock under my ribs! But the books say there's a few weeks yet before it should be in place. I still have at least one scan to go, and it's in my notes (at my insistence!) to scan on arrival at hospital to be sure!

There is a website called Spinning Babies that has some advice about trying to encourage baby into a good position. I'm not sure how successful all their tips are though!

slightlyinsane · 19/05/2014 07:12

I get loads of movements low down in my back and bum and with my wkly scans I know the one I'm feeling down there is definitely head down. Depending on where your placenta is it's very common to feel movement way down low and baby to be head down. If your lo isn't no need to worry my transverse dd didn't move head down till 38wks and no one was concerned. Have a look at spinning babies if you want to do all you can just incase. Good luck

ChicaMomma · 19/05/2014 10:12

Dizzy, i'm 35 and breech, the rib pain is off the charts! it's horrible.
I've got my 36 wk appt on thurs and if still breech they will schedule a section for 39 weeks. i'm feeling so crappy now in general that i'd be happy with that, as the thoughts of going to 41/42 weeks are just too much.

PS mine's been breech since 22 week scan- all the kicks are around the bikini line nad his head is wedged between my ribs.. i hope he's ok :(
