When did your usual clothes start feeling uncomfortable?!

Have an urge to go out and buy loose fitting trousers etc instead of my usual skinny jeans but am only 7 weeks!! My usual clothes (trousers/jeans) just feel rather uncomfortable at times now, just wondering if that's normal even though I'm nowhere near the bump stage yet?!

Thanks in advance :-)

I could have written this. I'm 7 wks with DC2 and I've just been rooting through my old maternity trousers, trying to see how long until I can legitimately wear them. My tummy is starting to feel quite firm and rubenesque. Mind you I've always been tubby!

Chipandspuds · 06/05/2014 17:35

I was about 16 weeks with ds, but I'm pregnant for the second time (9 weeks) and have ordered some maternity skirts from Next! I've had a really bloated stomach and heartburn etc so I don't want anything restrictive!

I did the old hair band wrapped through the hole and then around the button extension trick to get more wear out of my normal clothes. I did end up buying the next size up in ordinary trousers at week 12 but by week 16 I was properly into maternity clothes. I got most of mine from Debenhams (their maternity yoga pants are soooo comfy) and New Look. NL's over the bump jeans were brilliant too.

I know exactly what u mean! I'm currently 8 wks and my trousers and jeans are just getting tighter and tighter. I was desperately trying to hold off until 12 wks, just in case, and because I just feel fat father than pregnant, but I gave up yesterday, when someone advertised some second hand maternity wear on our local fb site! I think you have to go with what is right for your body, but I completely sympathise with the dilemma! I just thought it was too early - but my body's telling me something different lol!

I was 15 weeks when my jeans became so uncomfortable/difficult to do up that I went out and got two pairs of nice maternity jeans and trousers from H&M.

And about 20 weeks when I had to say goodbye to most of my pre-pregnancy t-shirts and tops.

5 weeks here. I'm now 7 weeks. Best thing I did. I felt so much pressure. My bras had to be changed to as I went from 34g to 38j still getting used to that one. Go with what's best not what text books say.

Pretty much straight away with this pregnancy (4th baby after a seven year gap) I remember my period being late by couple of days and my jeans just felt so uncomfy!

Funny thing is I seemed to pop straight away but now I'm actually really small, I'm 5 months pregnant and everyone is really shocked to hear this when they find out get all the comments about how small I am!

Expecting a small baby again really basis on my scan everything was on the lowest measurements on that paperwork they give, my biggest baby do far was 6lbs 8oz overdue

ShoeWhore · 07/05/2014 10:39

It partly depends on the style of your usual jeans I think - high waisted are going to feel uncomfortable quite quickly but low rise ones should last much longer.

I was a big fan of under bump jeans (although I know some people hate them) Never really got on with the over bump styles and they had way too much fabric until much much later in pg for me.

Might be worth trying some lower rise jeans first, maybe in a size bigger than normal? They would be quite useful after the birth as well until you get back into your normal clothes.

Yes shoewhore I agree! Went rummaging in the cupboards last night after posting on this thread, and found my old bootcut jeans from a few years ago. They are so much more comfy than my current skinnies, being lower on the waist, and especially as I was about a stone heavier than my pre-pg weight back then. They should see me through another few weeks I hope! Yes I will look like a 2000's throwback but I don't care. Now where did I hide my old super chunky Skechers...

MrPop · 07/05/2014 10:58

With 2 and 3, it felt really early - pre 12 weeks but I agree with SomeSunnySunday - at that stage it is bloating and not bump - the glamours of pregnancy eh?

Shortiee2707 · 07/05/2014 12:44

I'm 10 weeks and have noticed my jeans and leggings (which I thought were pretty comfortable and a bit big before pregnancy) were extremely uncomfortable on my lower tum. Due to a late pay I haven't yet been an bought some bigger clothes but I roll my leggings down so it's under my belly and undo my jeans and wear a belt which just holds them up with a long top or jumper :) I'm sure it's pretty normal .. But will only get worse. Just do whatever makes you comfortable! :)

SassehMonsta · 07/05/2014 12:50

Bloating a lot and the pressure is awkward, so today at 8+2 I've purchased my first maternity jeans (New Look). My friend at almost 11 weeks hasn't even considered it yet and gave me a weird look when I took her with me to buy these!

I have never known such comfort in a pair of trousers!!!

MummytoMog · 07/05/2014 13:52

6 weeks or something daft. This is DC3 and the pressure always gets to me early. Am in Mothercare, Blooming Marvellous I think, jeggings - black, navy and red has sorted me out for work.

MummytoMog · 07/05/2014 13:54

They're basically skinny trousers rather than jeggings btw!

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 07/05/2014 16:31

I could feel my usual tops straining at around 12 weeks and started to buy stretchy longer cheap vests & tshirts then. Bought a few maternity tops but haven't had an issue with trousers so still wearing my normal jeans & leggings at 31 weeks which I'm pleased about when I've seen the price of maternity jeans! Hoping to last until baby is born without having to resort to them tbh. My leggings are stretchy and just sit under the bump anyway and my normal jeans are all low rise so they still fasten perfectly fine under my large bump!

BeCool · 07/05/2014 17:02

You can get a few weeks out of your jeans by using a hair elastic to loop through button hole and then around the metal button.

Congratulations!

ImBrian · 07/05/2014 19:35

I'm 10 weeks with dc 5 and my normally flat stomach was bloated by 6 weeks and I know have a bump! I've had to buy some new work trousers that are looser and softer around the waist as my normal stuff was really annoying.

CuttingOutTheCrap · 07/05/2014 19:58

I think it was about 9 weeks for me - nothing to do with a bump, or even bloating really, more the pressure that ordinary trousers, particularly jeans, caused - made the queasiness far worse! I initially felt a little silly buying maternity jeans so early on, but they were a godsend.

I bought maternity jeans from Primark and New Look (have never bought jeans from them before) as I didn't want to spend a lot on them at that stage (thinking it was all in my head!) They've been a great buy so far. Haven't had to buy trousers for work so can't comment on that side of things!

mumof2cov · 07/05/2014 20:03

just remember all my skinny colleagues muttering about how they just bought clothes a size up at 6 months when I started to show with bump 1 at 3 months. bump 2 was not like 2 months. kept telling I was gaining too much weight. well sod them because my babies were 7 and 8 lbsers!
