I had mine and didnt have any side effects whatsoever. Bit of a sloghtly sore arm for a day but nothing major - certainly not sore like 'been to the gym sore' or anything

You'll be fine I'm sure

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 29/04/2014 18:05

I had mine on Thursday last week, honestly it was fine, done and dusted so quickly I was actually a bit shocked how fast it was. No side effects whatsoever other than my upper arm felt a bit dead for the afternoon, almost like it was bruised but fine by the next day.
Nothing to worry about I promise!

22honey · 29/04/2014 18:15

What weeks in pregnancy are you meant to have this? I'm 24 weeks atm and it keeps skipping my mind what with everything else going on, dont want to miss getting it altogether.

NeedaDiscoNap · 29/04/2014 18:54

You get it between 28 and 38 weeks 22honey.

Mine was fine OP, got it at 29 weeks and the only side effect was a bit of a sore arm afterwards. I sympathise though as I hate injections too! Just think of the positives for your baby.

katandkits · 29/04/2014 18:56

I had mine this morning, barely felt any pain and my arm is fine now. Wasn't a big deal, certainly less horrid that the blood test last month.

RAFWife12 · 29/04/2014 18:59

You will barely feel it! And just think - you will be doing the best thing for your baby.

Dizzywhore · 29/04/2014 21:17

Had mine done today. Hardly felt it and I hate needles! My arm is a bit sore tonight but nothing to bad. You'll be fine!

KatraAllandra · 30/04/2014 01:38

Had mine done a week and a half ago, arm around the injection site was red and a little achy for about 3 days but that's it. If you are worried talk to the nurse, she'll be used to dealing with needle phobes and concerns about side effects.

icklekid · 30/04/2014 02:54

Yep had mine last week, as others bit sore the next day but was fine- also hate injections. ..the blood test I had in my other arm however. ..well the bruise still speaks for itself!!

Redorwhitejusthaveboth · 30/04/2014 05:09

They give you what they actually give the babies for their 3month jab... So the dose is tiny and doesn't affect you as such... Just a small bruise at site...

Having the actual needle was fine it was super quick and painless! But my arm hurt for about a week afterwards!! The vaccine you'll be given also protects against polio, diphtheria and tetanus. Guessing its the tetanus bit which gave me a sore arm. Well worth having anyway better a sore arm than a sick baby :)

I take back what I said yesterday. I have a sore lump on my arm now!

johull · 30/04/2014 20:22

Had mine today. Walked in and back out, took 3 minutes! The needle was so tiny I didn't even get a plaster. Tbh I didn't even feel it go in and I feel everything!! It's the most pain free injection I've ever had x

AuntieMaggie · 30/04/2014 20:26

The whooping cough vaccine can't make you ill because its not a live vaccine... it will just make your arm sore...

Cariad007 · 30/04/2014 20:54

My arm was so for a few days after so make sure to get it on the arm you use the least.

Sidge · 30/04/2014 21:00

It's not the same vaccine that 3 month old babies get, it is the same vaccine preschoolers get as a booster at around the age of 3.5.

It can still make you slightly unwell as it can cause an immune response which can make some people feel as if they're brewing something - a mild temperature, a sore arm, generally feeling a little off colour. It's very unusual to feel really poorly with it. As an inactivated vaccine it causes no harm to the baby.

Just tell the nurse if you're nervous, she'll be a whizz at giving injections (we do so many!) and you'll be in and out before you know it Smile

SpawningSalmon · 30/04/2014 21:08

I took my 2 year old with me when I had the jab so was conscious that I did not even want to flinch for fear of passing on a needle fear to her, but I honestly did not even feel it!
Fast forward 3 hours and my arm was pretty sore but not bad enough to be concerned about.

Thanks everyone, your stories are really helpful and have made me feel better about having it xx
