Hi all,

Does anyone know what I should be measuring at 22wks 3days? The midwife has just measured me at 21.5cm, I have tried looking online but this would seem to suggest I am measuring small but she didnt seem bothered by it? x

2cm above or below 22cm so you should be fine. Some places they wouldn't measure at 22 weeks but I think now most do :)

Thank You, it is all so confusing!! x

Where I am they don't measure until after 27 weeks, and it's a notoriously inexact science.

Don't worry yourself over bump size. Being big or small in itself isn't a concern, but sudden unexpected leaps or dips in growth would be investigated.

Bump measurements at 22 weeks? Shock Surely that would cause anxiety?

I have (under the high risk team) an appointment at 20 weeks, then an appointment at 24 weeks: so no-one sees me at 22 weeks. They don't measure before then I don't think.

I don't think this is a problem or I've been forgotten, I've had numerous scans and check ups - as I mentioned I'm in a high risk group.

My appt was meant to be at 24 weeks but I am hopefully(if the consultant agrees) going on holiday until after then and needed my MATB1. I just thought I would google it as I heard the student tell the midwife the measurement and nothing was said. Im not overly concerned as I know the consultant will do a further scan anyway. She measured me at my 16 week appt before the consultant became involved after 20 week scan.

So it's a fundal height measurement, measuring from the top of the funds, not bump, down to the symphisis pubis, ie. pubic bone. It should be a cm per week, so 28wks and 28cm, give or take 3 either side. It shouldn't be done before 28weeks as it means nothing. If you were measuring small you would be referred for a scan for small for gestational age. If measuring large, not necessarily a scan, sometimes consultant review and if they agree, scan for polyhydramnios

Mummy "It shouldn't be done before 28weeks as it means nothing." Thanks, thought they hadn't measured me when they should for a minute there!

My last midwife measured me at 16 weeks!

Nothing this time til 28. I was gutted.

Your measurement sound perfect OP ! X

ithought She would have been disappointed with me then. I didn't show at all at 16 weeks. My baby is "chubby" with long bones and has never measured small, so I guess quite a few 1st timers would not show at 16.

ithoughtofitfirst · 29/04/2014 19:51

Squiz come to think of it I can't remember what I was measuring I just remember the tape measure and feeling like I was having a proper service lol .. I did hear the heartbeat today though which was nice. Such a relief when you cant feel much movement yet !

Mummymidwife87 · 29/04/2014 19:56

Also remember it's not the bump being measured it's the uterus, so from the top of the fundus down to the pubic bone.
