BFP after miscarriage last month - stronger pg symptoms

hello all,
I have just received a BFP after what I think was probably a chemical pregnancy last month. I was just coming up to 5.5 weeks before the bleeding and cramping started. Bleeding only lasted 4 days, much like a normal period and then almost exactly 2 weeks later I get the big smiley on my OPK, dtd as many times as poss and now 9 dpo I have a very faint line on a FRER test again. Obviously I am very nervous and almost half expecting that this won't stick as I have tested so early but the difference between now and a month ago are my symptoms. I did not feel pg in any way, shape or form last month. It was only that I had to go to hospital for a pre-op assessment and they asked if there was a possibility I could pg and was shocked to find I was when I tested. I just couldn't really believe it and when instinct told me to take another test a week later I wasn't really too surprised to find a much fainter line and then an almost invisible one the next morning. I knew then that miscarrying was probably inevitable.

This time round, and despite it being only 9 dpo, my boobs have really swelled and are tender. I am ravenous and I mean, ravenous. I have barely gone 30 mins without putting something in my mouth today and I am craving endless supplies of meat. I have just scoffed a whole pack of ham for lunch. I am very tired, I have spots around my chin which I almost never get and I have the nose of a bloodhound. Do you think this is a good sign? Does anyone else have any experience of lesser/almost no symptoms before a chemical pregnancy then much stronger symptoms before a pregnancy that stuck? Just clutching at straws here as I know only time will tell and I am going to have to resist the urge to POAS every hour to examine the strength of the line!

Fermin did you visit your GP? If you were 5.5 weeks, with a positive urine test over a week, that was a miscarriage not a chemical pregnancy: emotionally very early but physically you would need to be checked up. I've had complications after a loss that early, unfortunately it can happen.

Did you get a negative test (or a non-smiley ovulation test) i.e. one with NOTHING on it before this positive?
Whilst overwhelmingly likely this is a new pregnancy :) do mention your story to your GP, just on the slight chance you had 'retained materials' from your last loss or (more happily) it was a 'false' miscarriage i.e. a big bleed/loss of a twin and you're still pregnant from before. Both those things are rare but need to be checked - basically by a scan 6 weeks.

By far, far the most likely outcome is you will see a new little embryo, but your GP will want to make sure I am sure. :)

Thanks for replying Squizita. I did call lovely midwife at my local EPU when spotting first appeared and she said that it would be too early to scan and reassure me of anything (this was on the Friday) but she said if I still was still spotting by the Monday and the pg tests were still showing faint lines then she would book me in that week. By Monday the full-on bleeding was coming to an end and all the pg tests were negative so I didn't bother going in but rang to tell them so that it would be recorded on my notes. A few days after the bleeding stopped I started using CB Digi Ov sticks which showed about 5 days of blank circle negatives, 4 days of flashing smiley then the fixed smiley so am pretty confident I ovulated almost to the same schedule i would have done if i had treated the miscarriage as a normal period. I had been planning to make GP appt as my thyroid seems to react quite painfully to HCG so should get myself checked out sooner rather than later anyway. Thank you

The same thing happened to me after two of my early miscarriages I fell pregnant straight away and both continued to healthy pregnancies and resulted in dd and Ds. Hope everything goes well for you fingers crossed that you have a nice healthy sticky pregnancy! :)

Sounds quite hopeful. I had a missed miscarriage last year. Waited a cycle and started trying again. It worked and baby stuck and in fact I had my 20wk scan today so it is more than possible. I had bigger more painful boobs the second time too!!!!

Thanks all! And great news on scan Misty! Just want to fast forward so I can start to relax a bit.
