help - meeting with midwife too brief

I am 24 weeks into my first pregnancy and my 3rd meeting with my midwife (part of a team) was so quick (4 mins top) she didn't really advise anything or answer my concerns, I feel a bit duped...

has anyone else had a similar experience?

what concerns do you have, what do you want advice on

maybe we can help?

if you're bothered phone them up and go see them again

lubella · 23/08/2006 19:08

well to be honest I don't really have any major concerns, it's just that my friends seem to have been advised on things like perenial massage and other things that my midwife hasn't even touched on.

I just wanted to know what the norm is at this stage of pregnancy really...

don't think any of my MWs ever advised me about perineal massage.

I always felt I'd been hustled out of there asap after the bump-measuring.

I wish I'd known about MN when I was pg

"Hello I'd just like to complain that you didn't talk to me about rubbing my fanny with oil"

snurk

BrookeandTaylorsmummy · 23/08/2006 19:13

Firstly congrats on your pregnancy! Secondly you will probably get more help and advice on here, I sooooo wish I had mn when I was pregnant! Seriously any queries, concerns etc you have, ask away on here and you'll get an answer within minutes. But for serious stuff obviously you'll need to speak professionals x

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/08/2006 19:17

Twiggy. I missed you I did.

It does depend on the mw IME. Some are busy running through their lists to worry about your worries, and others can chat the hindlegs off a donkey. Most are pretty good though, maybe it will be better next time.

In the meantime....ask away.....

cece · 23/08/2006 19:18

ime the only person I know who did the massage thing had third degree tears

lubella · 23/08/2006 19:19

thanks for the warm welcome BTM , I just sometimes come away from my midwife meetings thinking - is that it??? maybe I am expecting too much...

xx

this was only covered in my ante natal classes never with the midwife. Does you hospital run classes or are you doing nct ones?

lubella · 23/08/2006 19:24

well I am with the NCT but will go to the hospital ones..maybe they will cover more things there...?

I think a lot of it is that you are very excited about your pregnancy and tbh theyve seen it all before and dont share that excitment. Thinking back I would really look forward to my appointments and then in a flash it was all over and Id be on my way out feeling all deflated. Unfortunately its probably a time and money thing.

If you have any specific issues or questions, write them down at home as you think of them and take to your next appointment. Other than that theres always MN .

BrookeandTaylorsmummy · 23/08/2006 19:27

Thats how I felt with both of mine! Don't worry honey bunch you'll get more support and help from here, we're also a bit more fun too!!!

lubella · 23/08/2006 19:29

I saw a MW every 2 weeks in my last pregnancy due to being "high risk" and I still felt like that, and they never told me about anything!

I did perenial massage and didn't tear at all, but I just looked up stuff online tbh!
