Reusable nappies!

Didn't know quite where to post this, but hopefully someone here will know the answer...

DP and I would really like to use reusable nappies rather than disposables, but there seems to be a huge range out there and I don't know what will work best! Can anyone give some recommendations? Ideally, I like the sound of the 'expandable' ones with poppers that are supposed to increase in size as your baby does - but please tell me if this is a bad idea!

Thanks in advance Smile

If you're considering tots bots, they are currently selling old stock half price at Tesco and on Tesco Direct.

Hi everyone,
we've been using Little Lambs since birth (DS will be 2 in June) and they are excellent! We bought preloved. They are a shaped fluffy nappy with velcro tabs (nicely adjustable) and a waterproof outer cover.

We got a mix of microfibre (really light and fluffy, dries almost instantly after a good spin, but doesn't last overnight), cotton (medium absorbency) and then bamboos for nighttimes. We started off with disposable liners but once poo is solidish, it flicks off quite easily into the loo Grin. We use bamboo boosters for longer wear.

The set I bought also came with a nappy bin with lid, a wetbag (for nappy changes away from home) and some tea tree oil which I drip around the inside of the bin to keep it smelling fresh.

Little lambs have a facebook page with special deals and they quite often have a sale and a clearout so you can grab some bargains.

I can't recommend them highly enough. We've tried Bumgenius, the foldy ones (can't do it), and the AIO pocket Little Lambs, but it works out cheaper with the 2 part system cos you can reuse a wrap for 2 or 3 nappies before it needs a wash.

I also tried the free trial pack the council were offering to try out some other brands (can't remember which), but none of them compared. Hope you find one you like!

rhihaf stick a (clean) sanitary towel to the bin lid and drip your teatree on that Wink

i just ordered my bamboo littlelambs. am stupidly excited.

PurplePidjin · 28/04/2014 12:54

never fluffy post is exciting! I got my new sling through this morning - awesome timing from UPS as they knocked just as I was headed up the stairs to put ds down for his nap so I have the whole of nap time to gaze lovingly at it :o

There are some amazing offers on for RNW at the moment :)

Lovely WAHM pretties with 30% off - the owner is very active helping others on the fb groups

For anyone interested in using wool as a nappy cover (we do for night time), again the owner is a WAHM and is always around to answer questions from people on fb - not related to her business, just out of kindness :)

If anyone's interested I'll post more links as they come up in my newsfeed. There are lots of WAHP who don't have the money for big advertising campaigns yet make gorgeous nappies - my absolute favourite for ds is a Rosie Boos Cat In The Hat pocket :o he wears it every time we get weighed

right, my littlelambs have been washed 3 times and are now hanging up to dry.

patiently waiting.

hoping to get started on using them tomorrow. really really really want this to work. 3 friends today have all said Shock what? are you mad? when I told them we were going to use washables.

Darksideofthemoon88 · 02/05/2014 16:26

Funny, isn't it, how many seem horrified when you suggest reusable. Like you're a bit dim or haven't really thought about it. I tell them it's cheaper, better for the environment, better containment etc etc. They still look at me with pampers faces. Then I say 'oh, and I don't fancy a bin full of pooey nappies outside the front door for 2 weeks ta' and the smug look fades a little.
Very excited to try. So hope they work !

PurplePidjin · 02/05/2014 19:17

Yay, lots of fluffy post

I got loads of Hmm looks when I was pregnant. Told I'd never stick at it, it was too much hassle, they're expensive, I'd be buried under a mountain of washing.

We're still going strong at nigh on 18 months. That includes dp having a stroke and spending a week in hospital then 6 months convalescing from when ds was 5 weeks old. Yes, keeping on top of the washing is a PITA. But it's a damned sight less of a PITA than trying to get round the supermarket under the circumstances, thanks! I also like that I don't have to find an extra tenner(?) a week out of our already miniscule budget Grin

PenguinsLoveFishFingers · 02/05/2014 19:31

I'm (over) due with no. 3 and have used them since we got the hang of them when DD1 was about 6 months old. Had a few little extras arrive today for my stash since a few of those that started out with DD1 are getting a big knackered now.

I haven't found it particularly hard work TBH. And the lack of chemical stench coming off a used nappy is a big thing for me. I think I'm just particularly sensitive as it doesn't seem to bother most people.

MummytoMog · 02/05/2014 22:05

Oh god, the sposies reek! That was the worst part of disposables for me, they stink. I mean we used them on day trips because I never really got on with wet bags, but they stink! Even just with pee in them :(
