So went to see midwife for 40 week appt. told her my feet had swelled and had headaches for couple of days (put it down to my sinus) she checked my urine and found protein so just spent 5 hours in hospital, been told I have mild pre eclampsia so have to be induced on Saturday.

I'm so scared had a sweep of a male doctor an hour and half ago and it was so painful even the midwife came in with him to hold my hand lol. I didn't expect it to be that painful. Only 1cm dialted and my notes say unfavourable.

Just been to the toilet and wiped and a big piece of yellow clear snot came away. Is this my plug already.

The doctor was reLly nice he said to think about having epidural once induced. I just need advice really.

Any body had this problem. I'm in tears I'd planed for a water birth and it doesn't look like it will happen, on way out doctor said come in Saturday and you might have baby by Monday, how long am I going to be on labour for I'm totally freaking out.

Hi sweetpea sorry to hear you've developed PE :( I know you've been anxious to give birth and this wasn't in your plan. If it helps, I was induced with ds as my waters went with no progress: I was put straight onto drip and managed with breathing through contractions for the 2.5hr labour (I won't mention the 3hrs pushing - big head!)

I'm going down a similar route it seems as 40+8 now and induction booked for Wednesday :( we had planned a home water birth, again. Hopefully something will happen for both of us before intervention.
Good luck, and ask for what you need :)

A sweep is awful - I too found it really uncomfortable. I was induced, had an epidural (so no pain at all and slept a lot through it) before my baby's heartbeat dipped low and ended up with a section. The baby is now 8 years old and well worth it :) Good luck.

The section was great btw - I was running up and down the stairs a week later. I heard that the drip can be more intense than natural labour which is why I went for the epidural. In the event, having to have an emergency section meant it was easier as I already had the anaesthetic. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how your baby comes into this world - they will still be your dear precious little baby anyway.

Thanks bauhausfan :)

Misty I've just checked on the previous chat see if you had progressed any further sorry you are still overdue.

Hope next Wednesday goes well keep me posted. I suppose I should be grateful due to PE I'm not having to go overdue too long instead a couple of days

Every cloud eh :)

When you ask for and epidural is up to you every half an hour the increase the dosage of hormone through the drip ie the contractions get stronger I wanted to see how I went with my first induction but it was in my mind that was probably going to have an epidural I lasted about and hour at that point it wasn't unbearable but I knew I didn't want it to get and worse!
With my second I had it put in before they even broke my waters! Don't worry about having to demand it though IME they are more than happy to give it so I suppose it depends whether you want to experience a bit of pain at the beginning or none at all.
I'm a total control freak to and I personally felt much more in control during my inductions a midwife is with you continuously and I found them much more sympathetic towards and pain I was in and more attentive not sure of that's really the right word but I felt a bit more looked after.
As to have having the pessary put in I found it painful but quick in a par with a sweep but it was over quickly and it was a start to the procedure that meant I got to meet my baby. :)

good luck sweetpea it will all come out ok. I had preeclampsia at 36 weeks. I told them early what I wanted as like people have mentioned sometimes it might take time to get the right team in place for you. Unfortunately the sprogling turned up 1hr after the sweep, the anisnatist arrived in time to play catch Wink. Still managed however, you just have to focus on the fact you will have a beautiful baby at the end.

ikeaismylocal · 17/04/2014 20:46

The same thing happened to me, I developed mild pre.eclampsia at 37 weeks but they didn't induce me just wanted to check me every couple of days.

I was told that an epidural lowers blood preasure, they advuised me to have one for that reason.

I had a couple of sweeps, on one I was not at all open but labour started 24 hours later, things can ove really fast and you can go from not open not faverable to in labour in a day or 2.

Best of luck! Enhoy the newborn cuddles :)

Good luck! I insisted on an epidural before I'd let them put the drip in my hand. Worked well!!

Notrightnowww · 17/04/2014 21:17

I was induced at 40 weeks for different reasons, but my induction was really straightforward.

I had a pessary (which did hurt a bit, but I think prob less than a sweep), strong contractions started an hour later, and my baby was born 5 hours after the pessary. I didn't need the drip or waters broken, and no instrumental delivery.

I know I was lucky, but wanted to share that induction doesn't always mean a long labour with lots of interventions.
