When did you see a midwife?

I am currently pregnant with my third (and desperately scared ... It's been 7 years since the second).
I called the dr to request appt. Etc. I was told to see a midwife at 10 weeks. So that appt. is made. Is this now the norm? To just take my word for it re.pregnancy & dates? (plus as I am 40 should i be pushier due to risk).

Absolutely normal. Doctor will only tell you to eat healthily and take folic acid then send you on to the midwife. They don't check you're pregnant. Can't advise re age though im afraid!

Absolutely normal unless you have particular health concerns you want to discuss (eg diabetes, adjusting existing medications, etc, etc).

The doctor won't do a pregnancy test even if you see her/him, just hand you a bunch of leaflets and fill out some forms.

Oh, but if you have serious issues about dates you may want to try and see the doctor or the midwives earlier. They date the pregnancy at the 12 week scan but there is a fairly narrow window (a couple of weeks or so) for the nuchal measurements, if that is something that you would want done.

The MW may put a "see consultant" note on your file if you're in a risky category. But they only do that at your booking-in at 8-10 weeks.

In reality if all is well the consultant may not choose to see you each time anyway!

i had my first app at 10 weeks so sounds normal to me!

I had mine at 10-11 weeks, so that sounds normal to me.

I think they do it then so you are in the system in time for the 12 week scan, but the majority of mcs will have happened by then (and this means that the NHS can save money by not seeing these women and these women also benefit of not being sent antenatal reminders when they are getting over an mc).
