Single or double??

Not even had my first baby yet...due in august but I am thinking we may have another quite soon because of our age.

If that's the rough plan am I better buying a pram that can convert to a double now or just get what I like and worry about it later. I like I candy peach but was amazed to learn it costs £350 to turn it into a double later!!

I have no experience as I too am awaiting the arrival of my first, so feel free to dismiss my comments, but gut instinct is to worry about what you need for this baby only. You may change your mind about having another so soon once s/he comes along - I'm told they're hard work! - or you may not be able to. I guess if you did end up with another very soon after, you could always buy a double buggy second hand.

Peach is nice as a single so if you like that one no reason to not buy. Only thing is they bring out new colours regularly and I am not sure how easy it is to get the matching second seat later. I would only get a double like that if you like it as a single :)

I wish we'd have thought this far in advance when buying DS1s pram, ended up paying more 20 months later to buy a double.
I'd say, if you like it and it works for you as a single but has the potential to be a double, then its a good buy...

I'm in a similar position, due in August and hopefully planning to have a second soonish due to my age. But I'm not really thinking that far ahead to be honest;as we live in a flat at the moment we need to focus on a travel system that suits flat living. We would also like to take baby on a holiday next year and will probably need to pick up a cheap lightweight pushchair for that.....From what I gather good travel systems retain their value second hand so we'll just sell and buy a double second hand if needs be at the time.

I loved my I candy peach as a single dd is 21 months and second baby due any day so we have converted in to a double.

eBay eBay eBay!! People sell perfect prams all the time I got my icandy cherry for £150 and since you've got loads of time you can wait until the perfect one shows up.

When I was preg a colleagues advised to buy the convertible one in the first place as he'd had to buy a new one when the second baby came along as they'd only got a single.

Part of me wishes that I had done that, there was much less choice 6 or 7 years ago though. That said I did have a tandem double at one point and no one really enjoyed riding in the back seat. The other down side to mine was that it was quite hard to manoeuvre, I also have quite a long stride and my feet kept hitting the back.

Either way, if I did it all again I would definitely buy one that you can push one handed, by the time DC2/3/4 is born you quite often have a toddler who wants to walk everywhere and needs a firm hand hold when you are crossing the road. The travel system that I have for DC1 was no good when DC2 arrived as I couldn't cross roads or do other tricky stuff one handed.

You do also get loads of very good hardly used cheap doubles on Ebay as unless you have a small age gap and lots of DC's they don't get much wear.

Dc2 id due in Nov but I'm not bothering to double up. DC1 was in the sling most of the time til about 10mo so am planning to just sling DC2 for a few months til DC1 can manage on a buggy board.

I'm 36 weeks with DD2, DD1 has just turned 2. I got what I liked... (icandy strawberry) knowing full well I'd be pregnant again quite soon... so WTF didn't I get a convertible pram first time round?????? several thousands of pounds later & unnecessary stress & hours if research we have too many pushchairs & really kicking myself for not having the same highly sensible thoughts as you. well done. treat yourself to a bugaboo donkey!!

I made the mistake of getting a single for ds1. When ds2 came along not long after I bought the icandy peach as a double - so wish I'd bought it first time round with a view to adding a second seat. For what it's worth, I love my icandy - yes it's expensive but it is so easy to manoeuvre, can be steered with one hand and has all of the seat/car seat/carrycot optio a you need.

Having said that a friend went for the cheaper oyster max and she is very pleased with that too.

get what you want for this baby - you can always sell, and buy a double second hand. My cousin got a P&T's for the reason you describe, but she had an ELCS and couldn't use it for weeks it was so heavy, and it actually took her quite a while, and an MC, before she had her 2nd DC (I think her eldest was just about out of the buggy by the time his DB came along).

We got a single pushchair for DS1 that couldn't be converted into a double.

We then had to get a double pushchair when DS2 came along because DS1 wasn't big enough for us to manage without one for him. Although DS1 decided that he wanted to walk everywhere by the time DS2 was about 3 months old, so that was really a fair bit of expense given the limited time we actually needed a double pushchair in the end.

But whether you decide to go for a single buggy or one that converts to double, definitely look for a pushchair that you can manage one handed. That's absolutely essential if you're likely to be holding a toddler's hand in one hand while also pushing the baby in the pushchair.
