Hi All.

I was just wondering if I need to inform my landlord there will be a baby living at their proerty?

DH doesn't think we do, but I just thought I'd get some opinions.

I wouldnt of thought so no

NickyEds · 11/04/2014 12:18

I can't imagine why you would. I didn't!!

Purpleroxy · 11/04/2014 12:19

Unless children are banned at the property, I would say it's fine, don't need to inform them.

expatinscotland · 11/04/2014 12:22

No!

Onelittlepiglet · 11/04/2014 13:00

You don't need to but if you get on with the landlord it wouldn't harm in mentioning it nearer the time.

We did this when I had dd just so our landlady knew, and she was lovely and bought us a present when she was born and also said she was glad she knew as if there were any problems with the flat, she would get them fixed ASAP for us before the baby came so we didn't have to worry.

Thanks all. I don't really know them that well, though they are friendly enough. I wont say anything to them.

we had to! there was a clause in our lease but it stated that permission would not be unreasonably withheld. if it's not specifically in your lease than don't bother.

starlight1234 · 11/04/2014 13:52

I didn't...LL arrived for yearly inspection..baby had arrived...no issues

CoolCat2014 · 11/04/2014 14:23

No but double check your tenancy agreement allows children!

Jemma2907 · 11/04/2014 15:40

My sister was made to move out when she became pregnant. There was something in her lease about children. The landlady lived in a flat underneath and I guess she didn't want the risk of noise. Good luck though, definitely check your lease.

I'm a landlady and wouldn't be at all bothered if a baby appeared - so long as the rent got paid. However, if there were money issues about it not being paid, I'd rather be told beforehand so we could come to some arrangement and I'd know not to expect the money in my account. I'm not unreasonable - my brother has a tenant who didn't have a job and had cancer and has been sympathetic and it is now all sorted out. Good luck with your new baby. xx

Ours we had to say. Only because in lease it has something about insurance. I think ie our landlord would be responsible for our healthcare if there was a fire/ builing fell down etc and any person not listed would not be covered

rallytog1 · 11/04/2014 19:26

You need to say. Your landlord has a right to know who is living in their property. Most landlords will just appreciate being told, but some will insist on doing things by the book, which is adding your baby to the lease as a "permitted occupier".

rallytog1 · 11/04/2014 19:27

And as Artandco says, there may be an insurance reason why they need to know. Our insurers wanted us to declare certain types of occupiers, including children.

PotteringAlong · 11/04/2014 19:31

I agree, check your lease. I rent out a house and I need to say for my buildings insurance if children live there. I don't care but I need to know!
