Shortness of Breath @ 27 weeks pregnant

I got this when i was pregnant with DS but not untill i was about 35 weeks and my midwife said it was becuase he had grown big enough to pregg on my lungs hence making them smaller and not able to fill up as before.
Im getting it real bad now and im only 27 weeks, i'm practically sitting bolt upright in bed to a satisfying breath but still feels tight.
Surley the baby can't be that big already? Can anyone suggest anything to ease it or make the baby move or something, i'm finding day to day activities and sleeping really hard.

Sorry, I haven't got any advise but thought I would bump this for you! Can you phone the midwife in the morning for reassurance? (Sorry about the spelling)

I had bronchitis throughout the whole of my first pregnancy, so effectively had the same problem.

Was given an inhaler (reluctantly) by my GP which helped a little. At 34 weeks one of my parent craft classes was run by an obstetric physiotherapist. She gave me some very simple breathing exercises to do which cleared it up completely.

Unfortunately I can't remember what they were but I really regretted not complaining more earlier as I would have had a much simpler pregnancy if I had met this woman months earlier!

I'm sure if you ask around with your midwife etc they will be able to tell you what the exercises were.

My sympathy as I remember how horrible this was!
Hope you find something to help

I had this, really badly from about 20 weeks onwards. had tests for anaemia all of which came back fine and my GP just said it was one of those pg things. I was really scared on a couple of occasions and thought I was going to die.
Didn't find a cure for it though, although I think lying on my side, slightly propped up helped

Thanks for your reply's.
I am seeing my midwife for routine blood tests tomorrow anyway so will get her to check everything out.
I hate mentioning it to dr's though where i had a blood clot on my lung with DS they go into a tizzy and whisk me to a&e even though im on preventory med's so it can;t happen again so i end up stuck in hospital for days before they say that theres nothing wrong and i can go home!

The worst thing is sleeping which is bad enough whilst pg and not being able to breath makes it worse.

Hi Charlee,

I have been getting this too, really tight chest just sitting on the sofa and can't breathe at night. Have an appt with GP next week so will mention it to her then. Am also 27 weeks. Let us know how you get on and if the midwife has any tips as I could do with some help!

P.S Have been told I am not aneamic so it's not that for me.

How are you doing now Charlee? Like you I am on anti-clotting meds in this pregnancy (Clexane?), and it's so difficult to get the worry in proportion, knowing it's 99% likely to be nothing. However, if you've had a PE before, you really should get this checked out, even if that means lots of hanging around - you owe that to your DS. Sorry if that sounds 'schoolteachery', but I've been thinking about you a lot over the last couple of days. Just because you are on preventatory meds is not a 100% guarantee that you won't have another clot I'm afraid.

Anyway, here's hoping you have been to the midwife now and had it checked out. Thinking of you.
