Does your bump always 'drop' prior to labour starting

I'm 38 +1 and have heard lots of stories about people's bump's dropping a week or so before they go into labour. Does this always happen? Mine hasn't dropped yet so does that mean I have to wait until the bump drops before I can even think labour might arrive.

I honestly wasn't aware of mine dropping either time Udar, so I am not sure that this always happens.

udar, mine didn't seem to and when i went in to hospital, (in labour), they gave me a scan as the Doctor said my bump was so high they thought the baby was breech!!

It doesn't seem to make sense now!!!

Angeliz - when I went into hospital with DS2 they gave me a scan because they thought he was breach - turned out his head was already so low down, that was why they couldn't feel it at first!! A right good wind-up it was though!

Mine didn't seem to - still couldn't breathe right till the end. And I remember going to the last midwife appt at 39+3 and he wasn't engaged at all. I don't really think he engaged until I went into labour which is supposed to be unusual in a first baby.

Mine didn't drop either

1st pregnancy - Ds didn't drop at all and didn't engage till I was in labour.

2nd pregnancy - DD slighty engaged, and bump did drop very slightly.

Mine did at about 6 months last time - I had to go in for an extra scan because the fundus was measuring lower than it should have. But it turned out my DD was 3/5 engaged (and went on to be born at 7lbs!)- akin to walking around with a water melon up your bum!
I think it's just one of the many things that varies from pregnancy to pregnancy, and woman to woman. (lol Secur, yup, could breathe relatively well, just couldn't move with ease!)

I wasn't aware of mine dropping either time, udar. Same story as dinosaur: with ds2 they sent me for a late scan (36 weeks) because they thought he was breech. Turned out he had dropped and was fully engaged - I hadn't felt anything change. The sonographer told me to go home and pack a bag which turned out to be good advice as he was born at 37 weeks

So just make sure your bag is packed (if you are giving birth in hospital) and don't hold your breath for any dropping sensations!
