Are there any sedatives that are safe to take while preggers?

Hello All

I am newly pregnant (6 weeks) with my first child and I have a long haul business trip coming up that I can't avoid.

I am a terrible flier and usually take Diazepam, prescribed by the doctor, during flights.

I know I can't take Diazepam during pregnancy, but does anyone know of sleeping tablets, sedatives or ANYTHING that will make me drowsy that is safe during pregnancy?

I am seeing the Dr on Friday to discuss this and pregnancy in general, but it would be BRILLIANT to know if anyone has experience of anything similar.

Thank you! Loubylou

i took piriton (not the non drowsy stuff) i was utterly desperate after not sleeping for months on end and was near collapsing through exhaustion.

research it like crazy though as it's not generally advised as no one is willing to do drug trials on pg women.
all the stuff i looked at was anecdotal and i was desperate enough to take the risk.

This is a bit leftfield answer but have you thought about any alternatives like relaxation tapes etc? How about drinks to make up like horlicks, milk, or maybe teas e.g chamomile?

I think they will say no as no one does drug trials on pregnant women so very few are deemed 'safe' - if you're not allowed lempsip then you're not going to be allowed anything stronger!
You have to decide what risks are worth it for you I think. Definitely talk to your dr but don't be surprised if they say you can't take anything - you are going to need a plan b I think.

Yep, I agree that it's unlikely there's anything out there that's safe - I was just rather hoping that there was something that is safe to take that has drowsiness as a side effect, rather than an actual sedative.

Thanks all!

Noone in a pharmacy will sell OTC sedatives to you if they know you are pregnant.
Speak to your GP.
