I bought a £10 small holdall from Primark and I have it all packed. But I'm seriously considering now just using my small wheelie suitcase instead because it's a bit bigger and I think I'll need more stuff (going in for a section). I don't want to seem like I'm arriving for a holiday lol, but I also think it's better to be overprepared.

There isn't much room for storage on the ward, just a small locker. Take what you need but have extra stuff ready for dh to bring in. There isn't anywhere to store a suitcase so dh would have to take that away probably and then bring it back when you are ready to leave, may be different if .ymou are only in for the 6 hours

Hmmmm good point. Maybe just bring the small bag then and have another one packed at home for him to bring in. x

I took a suitcase and glad I did! It's actually easier to store than a bag, goes behind the visitor chair or inbetween the cabinet and bed. Meant I could keep things in there and not have to put them in the draw.

Also a suitcase - same suitcase I took for 2.5 months around the world... Grin If there were any funny looks I didn't care!

  • Easily fitted 4 sub-bags within it for labour, mum post-partum, baby post-partum & Dad - did not want to be faffing around to find things.
  • We had enough not to worry about needing more supplies until Day 4/5 - although this was probably more relevant as not booked at our closest hospital, DH was staying with us & we were unexpectedly kept in for 5 days. Also had laid out longer stay supplies at home to grab.
  • It was easy for me to wheel out while DH carried PFB in carseat.

OK that's good to know. I think I will go with my suitcase. It is small anyway and on wheels which will be helpful. Thanks.

I have a separate bag for baby, by the way. x

Just x2 small bags.

X1 - my large handbag. Contained kindle/ phone/ charger/ money/ any valuables/ snacks/ labour odd bits like one spare long top and pants for me, one vest/ babygrow and hat for baby. - this was easy to lock away/ carry easily wherever

X1 - small holdall. Contained x3 changes of clothes for me and baby. Plus some water wipes, nappies and small toiletry bag.

That's it I think

I would def say pack stuff onto bed first, then consider if you actually need it and take at least 1/4 off!

Hand luggage sized bag or suitcase. Anything bigger takes up too much room

boopdoop · 09/04/2014 14:45

I took two small suitcases, one for me and one for baby, and then had a box of spare stuff in the car boot. Ended up in for 6 days so it was great having spares in the car so husband had everything easily to hand!

I had loads! A weekend bag for me, a weekend bag for the baby, my handbag...

As someone else has said, it probably is easier to pack one bag for an overnight stay (planning for a vaginal birth and a cs, so at least one nightie or t-shirt), and then have another bag or pile of stuff at home ready for your DH to bring in if you have to stay a few days.

I most regret asking DP to bring me in a few more t-shirts and pyjama bottoms, he picked awful stuff and I looked a state....
