Doctors/midwives /home visits... Should I stay or should I go?

I've been using my parents address at the doctors since I moved out (I've moved about a lot so it just seemed easier)
I've moved and am quite settled... It's only 5 min further away but falls under a different borough council thingy.
They've said I can stay there but I won't get any home visits... I'll have to go to the surgery for anything and everything.

Will this be an issue? Do midwives not normally do home visits?

Should I stay or should I change doctors now?

The only midwives visits I got were after the baby was born, the visit for the 1st 10 days (not everyday) and then you get passed onto the HV and she will visit you.

So it shouldn't make any difference? Will the midwife make me come round the surgery in those first 10days?

I would change it makes things easier,

I moved while I was pregnant with ds, I was booked with the previous hospital, and doctors. I had all my prenatal checks with previous midwives which was a mare when I had him and they had to organise midwives locally to come see me and registed with a new practice soon after.

It would have been easy if I had changed sooner.

They should still come round after you've had the baby but it will be mw from your borough rather than gp I think

Some MWs do home visits, it depends on the area. Eg where I have been pregnant they don't but where I have been on placement as a student they do the booking appointment at home. Ideally all women should get a home visit.

It is up to you but what I expect will happen is that your postnatal care will be passed on to the MWs in the area in which you live and your HV will be from the area in which you live so you may find some communication failures (although you shouldn't), may find you don't find out about all the support groups etc that are available and of course you won't have met the MWs caring for you.

So yes, up to you.

You will probably end up with a different midwife visiting after the baby is born. Worth checking as you might want to change now so you can see the same one before and after.

I used my parent's address and corresponding GP/midwife until I gave birth, as midwife said it would be fine to give my new address and change surgery, midwife team/HV for my post-natal care.

It turned out to be one of the most stressful decisions I've ever made. I had postnatal hypertension so had to visit GP after I'd been discharged. At 5 days postpartum, I was told by GP that he wouldn't see me as midwife notes showed my new address. I had to rush about and register at new GP (for myself and Dd) when I should have been resting.

I was readmitted the next day and it caused no end of issues as it didn't matter how many times I pointed out my new address/new GP, information was sent to the wrong place.

Once I was home again, they kept passing me to the wrong team for midwife visits (same city, just different sides of it).

Then I had 2 different Health Visitors trying to come and see me.

So, after all that....change now, would be my advice!

Crikey. That sounds like loads of hassle. It's such a shame because my current doctor is great!
