I'm only just preggers (like 3 weeks) and I'm getting wed in 4 days!

Small problem is...I normally have green ends to my hair but they are massively faded and my plan was to redo this week!

I use "Crazy Colours" semi permanent dye.

is it too risky? Will it be ok since it's just the tips and nowhere near my scalp??

Advice please??

Couldn't say but I did bleach my hair throughout pregnancy and everything was fine.

When I asked hairdressers they said hair reacts differently when pregnant so may not turn out the colour you hoped... Something To bare in mind if you are dying for a wedding Shock

The ingredients actually sound pretty scary!

Well, I say fine. I lost most of it Hmm

The worst that could happen is that my hair turns brown!!

I just don't want to cause any damage.

You lost your hair?!

Sections of it snapped due to the bleach. I was getting it applied to the scalp every five weeks and then adding heat. I clearly know where all the best hairdressers are. I lost all the bottom section by the top of my neck and part of the top of my head so looked like a cockatoo in all my pics with my newborn Confused

You won't do damage from one time. I'm sure.

Im more worried about about damaging "the little dude" than my hair!

Oh no you won't damage more than your hair. Think of all the hairdressers out there who are pregnant in salons, being dyed and dying.

I'd advise going to a salon. If they do it with better stuff and give you advice then its better for you. Grin

I read dyes now are relatively safe but avoid contact with the scalp esp for longer periods and keep to a well ventilated area, the crazy colours types are conditioner based aren't they? which would make them even safer esp if only on the ends.

I used a home root touch up kit for my light blonde hair (i'm naturally dark dirty blonde) at about 7 weeks preg, just opened windows, avoided plastering on scalp and put towel round head whilst developing so i didn't smell it and all was fine, now 18 weeks and i use sun in every week to lighten up root colour now and hair is reacting the same as always, though everyone is different of course.

My reading up and qnti-miscarriage consultant (world famous, lucked out and got on NHS!) suggest there is no risk on UK brand domestic dyes used monthly. You'd need huge amounts of the chemicals and/or ingest it to cause issues.
BUT a lot of women prefer to used them in the 2nd trimester because the fumes can make you sick and they can cause irritation and hair loss in the 1st trimester.

As for ingredients sounding 'scary' ... we do an thought experiment at work where we write the scientific names for salt, sugar, lemon, various compounds found in a chicken's body etc' and ask people "would you eat these"... they assume they're E number hell and say no. Just because it sounds long, doesn't make it more/less harmful. Arsenic is a simple word... but deadly.

CatFaceCrayola · 07/04/2014 22:46

True.... I would totally have fallen for your experiment squints (where do you work? It sounds cool)

I dyed my green ends with all the windows open and only left it on a fraction of the time I usually would. Hair looks good. Hope "little dude" is OK

It was at a science and technology college. :) I don't do the science, I do the pastoral (but am extremely un-woo!).
