The start of SPD?

I am think it might be starting Sad
I am 21 weeks along and for the past few days I have been experiencing some discomfort in my pelvis.

Yesterday I noticed my hips pop with every step and while walking down the stairs I nearly took a tumble as my left hip gave out all together. I lost all srrength in my pelvis/upper leg area and was hobbling around in agony for a good half hour.

My pelvis aches when I sit down and laying on my side is so uncomfortable, also gives me a dead leg on the side im laying on.

I also noticed that sitting with my legs crossed is almost impossible now. It feels like a lightning bolt has shot through my pubic bone and I can barely walk afterwards.

Gonna phone the midwife tomorrow as I work in retail and am on my feet all day, its becoming a real problem.

Anyone have any advice on how to cope? Is there anything that can be done or do I just have to suck it up?

Ask to be referred for physio - some people say it doesn't make a difference, but personally it really helped. Ask for your work to do a new risk assessment and tell them how long you're comfortable on your feet for at the moment and ask for it to be redone any time this changes. Yes it's inconvenient for them but you can do yourself permanent damage if you don't (I used to be a retail manager, and I've had SPD so have seen it from both sides).

Your employer needs to accommodate the adjustments you need, or can suspend you on full pay if they are unable to do this.

Yep doctor referred me to physio got stretches to do lots, a support band and at my hospital they have a gym and weekly antinatal group- getting some exercise and moving safely has been the biggest help and reduced my pain immensely!

Yeah sounds like spd it's awful. I wake up every time I turn in bed with pain. I'm 38 weeks if u see physio early it may sort it out :)

Tagging on - when I sleep on my side, no matter how much padding my hips get painful and 'out of line' :( ...is this the same? 17 weeks.

I always sleep on my side this is a new pain!

Ouch yes it sounds like it - fingers crossed they give you the referral to physio as soon as possible.

Mine isn't so bad this time around yet (28 weeks), I am still running but only twice a week as I'm being sensible Grin

It was excrutiating last time towards the end - getting out of my desk chair was so painful as it totally stiffened up if I sat still - the opposite to you it seems if being on your feet all day is making it worse! I found applying a hot water bottle/heated wheaty bag thing helped, keeping knees together when rolling over in bed/getting out of the car. Sleeping on either side just made it ache even with a pillow between my legs so it was a case of just suck it up and snatch sleep when I could Sad

I had the support band but could barely sit down in it so if you are standing at work hopefully that will help you and take some of the weight off your pelvis. I found the exercises worked for a day or two after I saw the physio then it slowly deteriorated until I saw her again the next week.

On the plus side as soon as baby arrived it was gone Grin

GOOD LUCK!
