Worried and confused after bleeding!!

Hi everyone (smile), just joined looking to see if anyone has had/or is having a similar experience to me.
I am almost 10 weeks pregnant after our 3rd IVF attempt. I have had 1 previous pregnancy which resulted in a silent miscarriage, no heartbeat on early 7 weeks scan so this is amazing that we have gotten so far!!
It has been a bit of a bumpy ride so far, at 6 weeks I had a dark discharge which I was told was implantion. Then at 8 weeks I was working and started to bleed, bright red with a little clotting as you can imagine I freaked out and was convinced I was losing the baby. After speaking to a GP they basically said watch and wait and they would organise a scan within a couple of weeks! I couldn't wait that long so got a private scan done the following day which showed a healthy baby and strong heartbeat (shock)......phew!! All since then was going well until yesterday when I had another bleed, this time it was heavier with lots of clotting, this lasted once again about 2 hours then eased off!! This time I didnt think I could be lucky for a second time, especially due to the amount of blood lost. Once again I arranged a scan which still shows a healthy pregnancy with no sign of any problems or any indication of why I bled. I am now very confused and worried about this happening again, and why it is happening?! (confused) Just hoping the little one stays strong!!!

xx

I had some light bleeding in my 1st trimester, it was ectropian (bleeding cervix as the skin is thinned/eroded). This is harmless but a bit scary.

If they did not see any bleeding in the uterus it might be that?

You could have a sch (that's the abbreviation, I can't remember the full name), an area of bleeding outside of the sac which either gets absorbed or need to come out - apparently if you google it's a bit scary, but I know lots of people in an IVF group who've got them and are all doing fine so far.

OR it could be the cervix being irritated.

OR something else random!

I had bleeding from 10-16 weeks in both pregnancies. Was a bold clot on the placenta apparently. Now have 2 DSsSmile hope all goes well for you xxx

Could be a subchorionic heamatoma (sch)

I have one now and conceived for a second time after my 3rd ivf and 1 MMC.

It was only after I read up about them that I found out they are apparently more common after ivf.

In my case I hemorrhaged out of nowhere at 11+6 weeks and assumed the worst, but a scan the next day showed happy baby growing on track.

I bled and spotted for 5-6 weeks before it stopped, but my sch was quite large.

The sch is thought to be a tear between the uterus and the chorion. Most often they think it originates from the placenta attaching but not always.

The majority heal eventually, but it can be a bit nerve wracking while you are waiting for it to happen.

The medics tend to be fairly hands off with respect to these, mainly because they can't do anything about them... Just expect you to watch and wait, but there are lots of support groups online that you can find if you google.

BTW, I am now 23+6 weeks with my ivf baby. The sch is still there but stopped bleeding about 6 weeks ago and is slightly smaller than it was. Hoping it will either completely reabsorb or stay as it is for the remainder of the pregnancy without causing any further issues.

The typical characteristics of an sch bleed/hemorrhage is a sudden bright red gush which can contain clots but generally isn't accompanied by much cramping and slows fairly quickly. Bit like turning a tap on and then turning it off again soon after.

Only a scan will diagnose this if you have any blood pooled inside, but thought it might help you to know that this could be a possible cause of the bleed which doesn't necessarily mean miscarriage.

I had sch around 13 weeks, hours after nucal fold scan. It was not seen on scan and a coincidence. A follow up scan showed large clot in the womb and a healthy foetus. The sonographer warned me that the clot would gradually come away and I would probably bleed for a number of weeks but that blood would be occult (old and therefore brown) rather than bright red. She said this was normal and only to worry if I had bleeding that was bright red (fresh). I did spot until about 20wks as she had predicted but I had no more after that.
DS is now 9 and despite being born at 36 weeks (I had other problems in pregnancy not related to bleeding) he is the tallest in his year.
It is extremely stressful having bleeding during pregnancy but it seems very common. I found that rather than focusing on the whole nine months I just broke it down into 4 week chunks and as each chunk passed I felt I was getting closer. It is so difficult to be positive when you have had previous losses ( 4 miscarriages in my case). I was aiming for 28 weeks since I knew that if born then there was a 90% chance of survival. I made it to 36 weeks and although he did have some problems we left hospital 10 days later relaxed and healthy and very happy.
After he was born I saw a programme about the miscarriage specialist in London, I can't remember her name. She claimed that if you see a strong heart beat at 8 weeks on a scan there is a very high probability the pregnancy will end with a live birth. Obviously you can't rely on this but I wish I had seen this programme before I had DS, I think I would have been much more positive throughout.

Thank you so much for all your replies. It is really reassuring to know people are going through or been through similar bleeding, and nice to know that everything can tturn out fine! I spoke with the midwife this morning and I am going in tomorrow to the early pregnancy clinic to get a further check up to try and get to the bottom of the bleeding. Nervous however pleased that I may finally get some answers!.....hoping!!!! xx

Hope how did you get on at the epu? X

Hey
I'm currently 18 weeks and I've 2 bouts of mug fulls of blood and bleeding everyday up till about 14 weeks. All scans etc have come back normal, apparently I've just had pockets of blood pooling and been told it's nothing to worry about. Had 5 scans in total, baby has a strong heartbeat and is doing well just the same as a normal pregnancy, fingers crossed it's nothing more but the doctors aren't worrying.
Good luck

Hope0411 · 08/04/2014 20:45

Thank you for everyones support, so reassuring to know youre not alone!!!

Had my hospital check up today and they said there is a small seperation in my uterus caused by the bambino bedding itself in. The pregnancy sac itself is all good and the pregnancy is all ok....phew! There is still a little clot and the possibility I may bleed again but at least now I have an idea of why and hopefully I wont stress so much!

All this stress and the little monkey isnt even here yet!! lol

xxx
