Would you go and see a Dr or wait 2 weeks for next midwife appointment?

Ok. I'm 18 weeks today. And on and off for last few days I've had pain behind my belly button and pain directly above it in a straight line (about 2 - 3cm long). And when I touch the area it's all tender and feels kind of like a ridge in my muscle. It's uncomfortable to bend down / stand up from laying down.

I have grown quite a bit in the tummy region in the last week or so, so don't know if it's linked to that or whether it's worth seeing a doctor about or waiting 2 weeks till my next midwife appointment. I've also been getting pain around my 6 year old c section scar when I cough or sneeze too.

Thanks, and sorry if you think I'm silly posting this here rather than going straight to health professional. It's just I'm consultant lead this pregnancy and don't want to take up any more of their time than is strictly needed. Thanks in advance x

I would call the midwife on Monday and see what they say.

You could give your midwife a call (most put their non-emergency and emergency numbers in your maternity notes) and have a chat with them about it?
Then if they want to see you they can book you in for an earlier check Or suggest you see your GP / consultant sooner.

NoodieRoodie · 05/04/2014 19:59

I think I'd try and see someone sooner rather than later. Is it possible to ring your midwife and get her advise over the phone. At best she'll tell you it's nothing to worry about and if she thinks that you do need to be seen then she tell you who's the best person to see, be it herself, your GP or the consultant.

Call the on call midwife, the number should be in/on your maternity notes.

That's what I thought, just didn't want to come across as a hypochondriac. Thanks ladies x

You're not a hypochondriac! I'm almost 17 weeks & have very similar pains around my belly button. I've had them for a couple of weeks, like you, as bump started showing. I had my 16 week midwife appointment on Thursday & they confirmed my suspicions, I've got a very small umbilical hernia. I think it was caused by prolonged severe coughing during a chest infection when I was 8weeks, but is only hurting now bump is expanding.
Midwife said she hadn't dealt with one before & would find out about it & let me know if she found out anything...
Afraid I can't help regarding the c section scar, definitely at least call your midwife to put your mind at ease.

Sounds like your developing diastasis recti :( round ligament pain is rife at this stage too, I am 17 weeks and suffering!

How did they diagnose this if you don't mind me asking? It's one thing I read about and it's made me nervous :-S

MrsGiraffe12, so sorry I didn't reply, I'm rubbish at keeping up with threads.
I hope you got answers from your midwife.
I'd felt the hole in my tummy muscles &asked if it was a hernia. Midwife basically just poked her finger in my belly button (ouch!!) & said oh yes you have got a hernia, ooh sorry did that hurt? (Ummm YES, plus I hate anyone touching my belly button anyway).
I've recently seen a consultant who (without even touching it Hmm) said it will need repairing after baby's born & has referred me to surgeons to find out best timing for doing it. He did say expanding uterus would push intestines away from the hole & prevent it getting worse.
