so tired...stupid railway!!

I live very close to a railway line so am very used to the noise that usually involves. I also understand the need to do maintenance overnight.
I am raging this morning because work was being done between 0145 and 0315 right outside my house and whilst I could not hear the work the staff were shouting, laughing, slamming the van doors constantly and shining torches towards the house. I have woken up very grumpy and just had my first coffee in nearly 4 months!!

Sorry I just needed a rant I'm 15+2 and starting to get a little uncomfortable at night and I work full-time rar!!
I have decided I want to move haha so my poor dh is trying to talk me down

Poor you. Might be worth an email to the TOC (Train operating company) politely reminding them that there are residential properties nearby. Beyond that, earplugs. Can't recommend 'em enough.

Earplugs are definitely the way forward. I could not sleep without them anymore. You can get loads on amazon very cheap.

I too would consider reporting last night's antics. I am sure whoever is doing the works has signed up for considerate constructors which is all about this type of stuff - respect for the community etc.

I complained to network rail yesterday (it was one of their contractors but ultimately their responsibility) have had the std acknowledgment so will wait and see what they have to say.

Boots Muffle Wax earplugs block out even my awful neighbours crap dance music at 2am. I can hear every word said and note played and the earplugs are magic.

And write to the train company and the contractor doing the work. I have also been known to stick my head out the window and shout too

OP i really feel your pain. I live right next to the train station and hear the announcements at all hours, i also live on a new estate where there is building working on literally all sides of the house. It's not even the noise of the machines, it's the shouting, laughing, singing, loud (local) radio and then when i walk by (pushing my toddler in the pram) i get wolf whistled or 'alright love?' followed by fits of laughter. I am a pregnant sahm on my own for 12 hours a day. It's so intimidating it actually makes me reluctant to leave the house some days.
