Hi All,

I am 26 weeks pregnant and am dreading bathtime when our new baby arrives!!! It has been 10 years since my son was born so I feel like a first time Mum again!!!

I remember absolutely dreading bathtime with my eldest and don't want to feel that was this time round.

Has anybody used any really good baths/gadgets etc so I can try and enjoy bathtimes this time round!!

Have a bath with the baby..! I love having a bath with dd even from being small.
I only do it when dh is around so he can pass her to me and take her out and see to him afterwards but it's such a lovely time.

A suggestion though for baths is a bath we bought for dd from boots. It sits over the bath, it hars arms that rest on the bath sides and it's got its own plug. It easy to bath baby in and lasts till around 6 ish months..At £20 we found it a dream and a bargain. Saves you leaning over a bath etc.

Enjoy bathtimes though..they are the best..!
LOL dd at 15 months now showers with me.! She tries to climb in with me even if I don't intend to give her a shower. .

sorry meant " see to her"..ooppsss...

try getting in the bath with your baby, then you can hold him/her close

you get these really good bath chairs now, made of terry towelling material, which props baby up inthe bath

never had one myself but i saw one recently and they looked very practical

this is similar

see great minds..!!!

Bugsy2 · 16/08/2006 15:44

I used a really great little plastic moulded bath chair, which was in a recling position & had a hump to stop them sliding down, which both of mine really liked. I found the towelling recliner was not quite secure enough for my ineptitude.
Also agree with bathing with your baby, but you have to wait a few weeks to do that, otherwise it looks like you've invited dracula to join you both!!!!

shhhh · 16/08/2006 16:25

never thought about the "dracula" bit..!! ..

BTW those who bath with baby, does your dp/dh do the same..? (obviously not all 3 together!!) I encourage dh to bath with dd as I think it's a lovely innocent time but he refusses.. Think it's probably because of the boy/girl mix. Anyone else's dh/dp like this.??

southeastastra · 16/08/2006 16:26

how would you wash yourself with the baby though. my son used to sit in his baby chair and just stare at the ceiling when i was in the bath.

shhhh · 16/08/2006 16:28

thats where dh come in handy. I get into the bath, wash and shout dh when I am ready. He then undresses dd and puts her into the bath. He sometimes then stays around to help wash her esp now she is an active rascal.! He then takes her out, dries and dresses her and I then get dried etc. EASY..!!!

Oh I hated bathtimes as well.
I tried lots of things but the best was a foam bath support out of mothercare, it only costs around £7. Its kind of moulded and comfy for them. It looks like a big sponge, I can't recommend it enough !!

southeastastra · 16/08/2006 16:33

oops sorry should have read op properly! my mum used to bathe babies in the kitchen sink

AnnD · 16/08/2006 16:36

Thanks you all sooooo much!

This is the first time I have posted a message - how great is this site!!

Thanks again for all your hints and tips. Will let you all know how I get on!!

when my dd was a newborn I used one of those bath chairs with towelling that just propped her up in the bath. I thought it was brilliant.

Then when she was older and able to sit up herself I got her a bath chair which had suction pads to make it steady in the bath. It was from mothercare and had some balls at the front for her to twirl. She loved it.

I was staying at my sister's house when I had DS and we were moving countries so was reluctant to buy a baby bath. Bought a cheap plastic washing-up bowl from the super-market and used that for the first while. He loved it. I used to put it on a towel on the kitchen table. He would stretch out and you could almost imagine him saying "Pass me a Gin & Tonic and my book please!!"

Then when he got a bit bigger DH used to hope in the bath and bath him. Never ended up with a baby bath!

shhhh · 17/08/2006 11:24

LOL at the "gin & Tonic" bit..!! DD is like that most days..!! What a life being a baby ..!!!

Nemo1977 · 17/08/2006 11:26

I had the plastic bath support and it was fab..used it for ds,dd and will use for db. Gives both hands free as they cant slip and it supports them until they can sit up alone.

eidsvold · 17/08/2006 11:39

I spent the first few months just top and tailing. dd1 did not have to have her bath in hospital before we took her home. Dd2 had a bath in hospital and that was it for some months. I searched high and low for a top and tail bowl for dd2 ( here in Aus) found them fab.

Then when dd1 was bigger had a sling sorto f thing for her to go in the big bath - rather than getting a separate bath for her.

like this

Thanks again for all your advice.

We are going out on Saturday to start buying a few things so will look at the ones you have all recommended.

We had a 'Tummy Tub' which was fantastic when DS was tiny. We bathed him sitting cross legged on the living room floor which was much cosier in winter.
We have now passed it to a friend and will be using it again with baby no2.

AnnD · 21/08/2006 13:26

I've seen the 'Tummy Tubs' advertised and like the looks of them because they look quite safe and I won't be scared of him slipping! May invest in one of these - plus they do look quite funny when you see them advertised in the catalogues with the little heads popping out!!!

Thanks

They are fab, Really secure and less frightening for newborns I think, and though you won't use it for long you can save it for later babies, and lend it to friends.
Plus you are so right that they look hilarious in them, it does make for some funny photo moments.
