maternity towels / tena pants / night sanitary towels

which is best? I havent worn towels in years but when I did they were winged for peace of mind. I used to like the kotex range, nice soft cotton sort. I've read recommendations for tena pants, maternity towels & night sanitary towels. am I right in believing maternity towels are not plastic backed (leakproof) also that some people wear 2 at once? what about tena pants lined with a maternity towel? wanting to start stocking some up but not sure what to get. im assuming mat towels for first few days? what about a mat towel on top of a normal sanitary towel?

A normal pad or towel really won't go a thing in my opinion, not just for the blood (yuck) but also it's the padding you need, big thick maternity ones all the way... Boots ones always work for me

do the mat ones not leak through though if they're not plastic backed?

I used a night time one with wings to stop leakage, and put a maternity pad on top of that - worked really well.

TBH I was changing them that regularly they didn't leak, and used cheaper big black pants that I didn't mind binning if they got messy, primark or supermarket ones, until things eased off

Boots maternity pads did me well. I changed it every couple of hrs though x

You just have to change them regularly-but there was so much blood for me that that wasn't a problem. I don't remember any leakages and I was very grateful to have giant, soft pad to sit on!

Tena are amazing (albeit expensive). You're totally protected and you get the extra padding/cushioning (vital if you have a natural birth and you're sore)

I used the thick asda maternity pads. They do have a plasticky back on them. Never had a problem with leakage. I did wear 2 for the first few days but that was purely to do with comfort!

The thing about maternity towels is they don't have the dry weave top sheet. You do not want one of those catching on your stitches! You can buy maternity towels with wings in mothercare. I would not think tena pants would be needed for long, I never bothered, but perhaps you might prefer them for the first two or three days. I wore primark pants and they washed fine and ended up in the period pant drawer.

I got 2 packs of superdrug thick maternity towels for £1.80 (think there's 10 in a pack) and a pack of 18 always night with wings. what else/how many more should I get?

I would say you will need more, be careful with the wings, as another poster said, heaven forbid they stuck to anything and goes without saying steer clear of anything fragranced

I think I used about 50 in total.

I bought supermarket own brand, I'm shocked they only come 10 in a pack. Friends have said to use 2at a time. Every time I go to supermarket I've been getting about 3 packs. So I've prob got over 100 now!
Is this too many??

boots own were fine, the padding was great on stitches. I had to wear them for weeks so I got through lots and lots.

I opened the superdrug ones. they're about as thick as your finger and have a plasticky backing, no wings tho. undecided about tena pants, would it feel like a nappy/be visible through pjs/jogging bottoms?

Top tip from me: I had ridiculously engorged breasts at around day 3-5, squirting milk everywhere. I used maternity towels in my bra at night to avoid soaking the bed and the soft padding helped with getting comfortable a bit.

Also, those cheap, horrible net pants you get in hospital are really idea for holding in the pads gently. If you can find them anywhere, get them. I wish I'd had more than 2 pairs.

I've got a box of 50 tommee tippee breastpads to get me started. trying to pick up bits and pieces while they're on offer

Tena are huge not going to lie. But tbh, I was living in jogging bottoms/pj's for the first month anyway. I guess it depends if you're normally quite a stylish person hoping to do new mother like Kate Middleton did!

I'm still that she walked (!!) out of the hospital in that blue dress..

I used biggest sanitary towels (the night time ones) rather than maternity ones I think. I think I got through 2 or 3 packs. Mine was no heavier than a period after the first day so it's not always a gorefest! It was light spotting after 2 weeks. But I think that was the lighter side of normal

I've made about 10 of those 'padsicles' (aloe gel & witch hazel on maternity pad, bung in freezer) after finding them on pintrest.

They get rave reviews from what I've read. Has anyone here used them?
