Placenta Previa!!

Had a phone call today from the Sister at the Antenatal clinic, I should have had a consultation after the scan because The placenta is completely blocking the Exit (placenta previa) And because I am nearly 22 weeks, have had a placenta abruption last time and I have preemie labours I am at a high risk of severe complications

Sorry to sound so melodramatic but FOR FUCKS SAKE I JUST WANT A NORMAL PREGNANCY FOR ONCE!!!!

Dd1 was ot growing well so had her early, the twins were early and dd4 was very premature, nearly died and I just thought this time would be different.

So consultant said he doesn't think it will move out of the way completely, another scan at 30 weeks but if any bleeding before then its hospital bed rest I have 4 other kids for gods sake!!!!
And to top it all

NO SEX AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry needed to vent

So anyone had placenta previa and had it still lying across the exit late in pregnancy??

What happened?

so sorry to hear you are having such a hard time and you are not being over the top screaming about it I had placenta preavia with one of mine but thankfuly it had moved up at my 30 week scan I hope things go well for you hun keep your chin up

i had this and (sorry to tell you!) had to stay in hospital from 36 weeks until the birth. it was fine because you are constantly monitored and i have a csection at 37 weeks. do you have people who could help you with the children?

Elibean · 15/08/2006 21:12

Oh Magnolia, I'm sorry....not surprised you need to vent. I worry about 'what if I'm put on bedrest' (different issues) and I only - only! - have a 2.5 year old to worry about.
My best friend had a previa that moved, so there is definitely hope - but it sounds like it might be wise to sort out as much help as possible just in case yours doesn't. Do you have any, at the moment?

mistressmiggins · 15/08/2006 21:23

I had a placenta Previa until my last scan at 39 weeks 2 days - I kid you not - the C-seciton was booked for the next day if it hadnt moved

not only had it moved, but by loads so the consultant said, see you in 2 weeks for induction if youve not had it !!!

hang in there!!

Thanks ladies,
My main worry to be honest is they expect me to go into labour early!!! I never go full term and dd4 was born at 33 weeks. What if I don't get far enough for it to move???

I know I am panicking

they will probably keep you in, have you got someone who could help with the children?

magnolia1 · 15/08/2006 21:37

Hubby is home alot, mum is 3 roads away and sister and sister in law are both great so should be ok.

I think I am more scared of bleeding heavy and having a really complecated delivery or a real preemie again.

Why can't life be simple lol

i bled a few times, that's why they keep you in. i think the only thing you can do is wait and try to relax although its easy for me to say that

DontlookatmeImshy · 15/08/2006 21:43

I had pp. At the 20 week scan I was told most of them move out of the way but at 34 weeks mine hadn't so was admitted to hospital until ds was born by c-section. It's very unlikely to move at this point. (34weeks onwards)

If you don't get far enough for it to move, I would imagine they'll have you in for a c-section as soon as labour starts (if it can't be stopped)

magnolia1 · 15/08/2006 21:44

Did you get told to take it easy?
I am such a bouncy person I find it hard to rest. Also I bowl in a league and wonder if I should stop?

my consultant didn't tell me anything about taking it easy at home or no sex! but with hindsight i wish i had relaxed more. (i'm hyper too)

I had this; started bleeding at 34 weeks. It was quite a big bleed but not horrific. Only the bleeding irritated my womb apparently (irritated me too!) and I went into labour (about 12 hours after the bleed, was in hosp being monitored). Had a cs 45 minutes later.

If the placenta doesn't move you're not going to have a complicated delivery, you're going to have a cs (which is not so bad if you have childcare help available!).

The premature bit is unforunately more likely. But at 20 weeks, the chances of it moving are very high (80% I think).

Ok will relax for now

Actually I say I will but of course I won't

Hi Magnolia 1

Sorry you are having a stressful time

I had Placenta Previa diagnosed at 20 weeks. Was told it would probably grow and move higher and at 30 weeks had a scan which said it was 4cm for OS. Woohoo I thought. But, when I came back for a precautionary scan at 37 weeks was told that the earlier scan was wrong and it was still very low. I was admiteed because it was so low and baby was lying transverse (across) my tummy. After about a week of humming and harring, the consultant got a specialist to scan me to find out just how for the placenta was from the OS. He said it was 2.5 CMs. This was borderline I think. My consultant was happy for me to have a natural labour but I had to be very monitored and stay in hospital until labour (the next day thankfully). Except for the inevitable high intervention birth, I gave birth vaginally and it was never a problem.

Just try and remember that it does have time to move and you can give birth naturally with low lying placenta without risking the baby or yourself. The main thing is that they know about it
