Hi i was told at 20 weeks that i had placenta prieva and the scanner said she doubted it would move then ended up with bad pains and lots of pressure last week so ended up in hospital and the doctor said she had checked my notes from my 20weeks scan and said my placenta was lying ontop of my cervix so very low, They have said about c section nd im not worried but im getting fed up now waiting to find out whats going to happen next, i have another scan on the 1st april where i will be 28 weeks and that will be a internal i was told. Anyone else in the same boat! i have two toddlers at home and just want to know whats going to happen!

Yes, completely covering the cervix is basically at the bottom. However that doesn't mean the placenta won't move out of the way as your uterus grows.

I believe the grades are based on how much of the cervix is covered, but they never explained to me how it worked, just said I was grade 4, which was as bad as it could get.

I had placenta praevia in my first pregnancy. Seen on scan at 20 weeks. Had a bleed at home week 29. Admitted for a week. Bled again at week 31 and admitted for rest of pregnancy. Two more bigger bleeds in hospital which stopped within hours and had a section at start of week 38.

Sorry to say that there was no warning at all prior to any of my bleeds.

Advice - take things very easy. No heavy lifting at all, no sex, no exercise (other than gentle walking or maybe swimming). Be very careful lifting your toddlers - is it possible to get any extra help at all?

I had grade 4 as bad as it can be - no pressure or cramps though. It was a very easy pregnancy other than the bleeding!

On my second pregnancy I thought I would get an aupair if I had to go into hospital again but I was lucky - placenta low but not placenta praevia.

I was never given an internal and was actually told that women with this condition shouldn't be given internals as it can trigger bleeding. I'm in Ireland so maybe things are a bit different here? But they should be able to see exactly where placenta is on screen so ask if you can be given a scan instead of an internal.

I never had either an internal or an internal scan with the placenta praevia as Amber mentioned.

Never any warning of the bleeding, except in the first instance with DD1 I had been restless all evening while out for dinner, more than usual.
