The worst thing about pregnancy....

We're are having a nice jokey giggle on another thread about the 'joys' of pregnancy, but in reality, if you had to pick just one part of pregnancy that was undoubtedly the worst in your eyes, what would it be??

With me it is the back ache.

The unrelenting, unresolving, agonising backache, all day, every day and throughout the night too.

It has made the last 20 weeks of my pregnancy nearly unbearable. I'm in pain whatever position I'm in, I can't lie down or sit down in the same place for more than 5 minutes before the shooting pains and pressure become too much and I need to re-shift!! Painkillers make no difference, hot baths and hot water bottles make no difference and it has just been horrendous. I've spent many a night in tears purely just out of frustration because nothing makes it go away Sad

It's definitely the one thing that puts me off getting pregnant again.

I have been lucky that I have been generally very healthy. No morning sickness or SPD.

For me I think it would be the sleep deprivation. From as soon as I can't sleep on my tummy and move about in my sleep (I'm normally quite a fidgety sleeper) I have struggled to get a good night's sleep. The whole 'sleep for an hour, wake up and physically turn self and pillows from one side to the other, sleep for an hour, wake up with a numb hip on the other side' thing grinds me down.

What keeps me going is knowing that, after I have the baby, I generally sleep loads better - and this despite the fact that both of mine have been pretty rubbish sleepers (DD2 was nearly 2 before she slept through).

buffythebarbieslayer · 13/03/2014 17:19

For me, this time, it was the sickness for first 20 weeks. I felt so ill, for weeks and weeks I felt wretched and lonely with it.

I've been blessed with an easier third trimester this time. But I know how hellish third trimester can be as that was my worst bit last time.

GingerMaman · 13/03/2014 17:25

The sickness before 15 weeks. It was horrid.

ChicaMomma · 13/03/2014 17:27

3 words- LACK.OF.WINE.

I simply cannot wait to lash back a bottle of cold new zealand sauvignon blanc. Or anything at this stage- blue nun will do just fine!!!

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 13/03/2014 17:27

MOTHER FUCKING FIRE BREATHING ACID BUBBLING HEARTBURN

MummytoMog · 13/03/2014 17:40

Carpal Tunnel syndrome. Completely numb hands with DD, took six months to get complete feeling back after she was born, with exciting shooting knife like pains in the last two months of pregnancy.

With DS it felt like someone had dipped my hands in boiling oil. I could only sleep with both hands propped up on cushions, with heat pads under my wrists and even then I would wake after a couple of hours crying with the pain. Did disappear straight after birth though.

Really hoping it isn't as bad this time, or my hands go numb rather than agonising.

Nomorepeppapig · 13/03/2014 17:46

Tiredness
SPD
Indigestion
All getting to me at the moment and I'm only 22 weeks! Still a long way to go!

BEEwitched · 13/03/2014 17:56

A new thing I just discovered: Raynaud's in the nipples.

Ouch.

eurochick · 13/03/2014 17:58

The worry. I just want to get to the end of this process and have a healthy baby out in the world.

The difficulty of finding clothes that fit is not filling me with joy either.

moomin35 · 13/03/2014 18:14

The difficulty of shaving legs, "personal grooming" in general and putting shoes on due to huge tummy in the way- am only 28+5! Oh and Im sure although i was lazy before being pregnant, the sheer laziness I feel in general!

greentshirt · 13/03/2014 18:32

In no particular order: Piles, toothache, lack of sleep and the unexplained liver pain.

Even despite the above i'd say I have had a really easy time of it, its only the last couple of weeks its started to grind me down!

Boogles91 · 13/03/2014 20:19

Not being able to wear my heels! As ive always worn them more than trainers. Its gonna kill my feet when i can get back round to it :( othr than that im loving everything else :D x

MrsPatMustard · 13/03/2014 20:53

Breathlessness. I was completely fatigued in the 1st trimester and could barely walk 10 yards without feeling puffed. In the third trimester the baby was squashing my lungs so felt constantly wheezy, even when stationery.

StarsInTheNightSky · 13/03/2014 21:25

The stress and worry.
At first I worried about miscarrying. I thought the worry would go away, but you just worry about different things. I'm now 28+4 and terrified of stillbirth. We've had three periods of reduced movement already, and also lots of scares with our little chap trying to arrive prematurely. I do have a high risk and very complicated pregnancy, and we have had previous losses, so I think that has made me more worried. I just can't wait for my ELCS so that I can have him safe in my arms.

On a lighter note, I would also say not being able to wear my high heels due to SPD. I love my heels!

squizita · 13/03/2014 22:25

Worry. :(

Injecting myself daily.

But right now - slow digestive transit. Because it's either wind/constipation or my stomach things "aint nobody got time for that" if the meal seems too rich and I throw it up a few hours later. Grrr.

alita7 · 13/03/2014 22:26

Waiting for the 12 weeks to be up so you can sigh with relief!

CristaBell · 13/03/2014 22:41

Lack of sleep because of needing the loo and can't get comfy, breathlessness (also asthmatic) and since about 30 weeks I've had achy shoulders, like I have a weight lying across them and it makes my arms feel heavy. Does anyone else have achy shoulders? Thanks

CristaBell · 13/03/2014 22:42

Oh and Indigestion!

ImAMonkeyMess · 13/03/2014 22:45

The massive boobs that just don't look or feel like mine. Without a bra they just lay about being heavy and generally unsightly. 30E to 30G so far and no signs of stopping. Am only 21 weeks!

Jolleigh · 13/03/2014 23:29

I can't remember the last time I slept properly because I'm up at least 6 times a night for a wee. It's been like this since about 4 weeks and I'm now 38 weeks. It doesn't matter when I drink...it all exits at night Angry

chattychattyboomba · 13/03/2014 23:42

Just one? But I want to complain more!
Fine. worst was severe vomiting and nausea lasting until about 25 weeks. I am now only finally back to my pre pregnancy weight (68kg, I'm 5'11) at 30 weeks, after losing over 15kg at my worst. I still feel completely drained from the toll it took. Never again.

icklekid · 14/03/2014 06:07

Daily sickness for 23 weeks so far (often more than once) combined with spd from 17 weeks means constant pain :-( still a long way to go yet...

kiwiscantfly · 14/03/2014 08:08

Heartburn, followed closely by lack of wine.

livingzuid · 14/03/2014 08:35

Hyperemesis. The worst thing. Then insomnia. Nearly 30 weeks now and I'm so bloody tired so why can't I sleep!

And also scan fear. I hate, hate going for my scans. I had them every 4 weeks and now every 2. Doesn't matter that my uterus feels like a party town most of the time, it still scares me shitless that something is wrong.

Sorry that is 3 things. I honestly couldn't identify which one was worse. They are all as bad just in different ways.

NestingNesting123 · 14/03/2014 08:41

Itching hands and feet. I am being monitored for OC as liver function tests showed my levels went over the norm. Fortunately it doesn't like like OC as they subsided after a few days, as did the itching but those days were Hell, the worst thing I have ever been through physically. I've been in pain, I've been sick, I've been tired but after those days where the only way I could get even a bit of relief was clutching a bag of ice I always think it could be worse.
