hi all, I'm 6wks preggers, i have 4.5 yo ds, and an 8 month old ds! How the heck do i cope? Is a double buggy a def. need? My younger db and i have the same age gap and all we did was fight (in between being best buds) we drove our mum up the bloody wall!!!

i have 18 months between dd and ds but i'm only 2 weeks in so not an expert! going well so farthough, dd loves her baby brother and is very good, doesn't pull at him just gives him tonnes of kisses

as for double buggy i haven't bothered, our town isn't really suited to them and missy loves to walk so opted for sling and single buggy. been out a few times already and no probs

congrats btw!

I've got 19 months between ds and dd and will have 16 months between dd and dc3. I'm anticipating the fisrt few months will be chaos and stressful but it will settle down - it did last time!!

I found I needed a double buggy for ds and dd because playgroup, the park, some friends were all too far away for ds to walk to. I did use the sling and single buggy in the early days but things like going to the park are quite tricky if you've got baby in the sling. Plus, I found dd too heavy after a few weeks and it was easier with the buggy.

I'm aiming to get ds trained in getting himself dressed etc before dc3 arrives so I won't have to do as much for him but you should have a fairly good helper/ playmate for ds2 in your ds1, which will make life a bit easier.

At the end of the day, you will cope because you won't have a choice and life will fly by in such a blur that you won't have time to worry.

8mo is already 25lbs so next one may well be a whopper too. so i wont even bother with a sling lol. my two ds's are fantastically (is that even a word?) well behaved. They have been nic-named the stepford children, i can't help thinking i won't be so lucky this time round lol

i had a 22mth gap, and double buggy was a god send. i got my walk and fresh air and they napped.

Genrealdogsbody1, I'm having the same thoughts. My 2 have been fantastic sleepers, never really cried except for food, etc, etc, now I'm thinking I'm up for some payback!! I can't get that lucky 3rd time round

I know how you feel. Im 16 weeks with dc2 and dd will be 20 months...I intend to get a double pram (why not...pram buying is an addiction .!)
But like others have said, you have no choice BUT to cope..!!

Congrats btw. xx

generaldogsbody1 · 13/08/2006 15:35

I do realise i will have to cope lol, but knowing it hasn't stopped the panic lol

Try having a 14month age gap!! Can i change my mind??

2Happy · 17/08/2006 16:53

Hi GDB. I'm nearly 18wks with a 14m ds - the gap will be 19+m, which is a little more than yours. When I found out I was nervous, but I've spoken to loads of people since. Basically, everyone who has had a small age gap has been really positive about it (in fact someone who had a 3year gap said she really regretted not having a smaller gap). A couple of people said it was tough to begin with, but not everyone said that, and they all seemed to agree that it was a good thing in the end. But a double buggy is a must at that age I think! (Oh and me and both my dsis's fought all the time but are good friends too without small gaps between us - I think it's sibling par for the course, lol!)

sweetkitty · 17/08/2006 16:57

I've got 18 months between my DDs (now 2 and nearly 7mo) yes it's bloody hard but I don't regret it one bit, they are just getting to the interesting stage, DD1 adores DD2 and they just laugh at each other all day.

Double buggy is a necessity, DD2 far too heavy for a sling after a few weeks and DD1 cannot be trusted to walk beside me yet.

Hasn't put me off no 3 but I'm havign more of a wait this time!

My dd is 18 months old and my ds is 6 months old. Not going to lie it is really hard work, but I have found with my ds I am so much relaxed and take parenting in my stride the 2nd is nowhere near as scarey as the 1st I think. I just find going to mother and toddler groups and getting around with a double buggy so hard work, especially as I got an expsenive but awful buggy (is there such thing as a perfect buggy?!) They get on really well though at the moment my dd is always kissing my ds and they play together its lovely.

Best of luck.
