Induction - does family history matter?

Hello

Just a thought really. I was induced with DD. My sister was induced with her daughter. My mother was induced with me and my sister. It seems as though the women in my family don't go into labour naturally!

Does anyone know if this is a recognised pattern or just coincidence? If you were induced, was your mother as well? I am pg again and am desperate not to be induced as it was awful

TIA.

dunno. my mum was induced with me (her first) at 40+11 and I went into labour with ds at 40+13, so maybe there's a tendency to long pgs there.

Otoh my sister arrived a couple of days early with no probs (she was lighter than me) and her ds was only 6 days overdue.

How far overdue were you with your first?

2 weeks. Just wondered if it was all a coincidence or if our bodies won't labour without artificial encouragement

I was induced with dd. My mother was induced for all three of her pregnancies, my sister was also induced for all three pregnancies.

My induction was for pre-eclampsia, so I don't know whether I would have gone into labour naturally, but with all but one of my mother's and sister's pregnancies the inductions were because they were very overdue.

My sister claims to have had blood tests which showed she doesn't make enough oxytocin, but as the blood tests were done for something completely different and were taken when she wasn't pregnant or breast-feeding I'm not sure that they really count for anything.

Many women have longer than the usual 40 weeks gestation!
Your family might WELL go into labour naturally at 43 weeks ! Just need to ask to be monitored from 42 weeks and see what happens!
I know several women who had their baby well past 42 weeks.
This website birthlove has a 10 months mama page...

I was induced with DS1 but my Mum managed to slip out 6 without it. Neither of my sisters were induced either.
Don't know if that helps?!

My Mum was induced with both my brother and I at 40+12wks. So I was expecting to go overdue and have to be induced as well when I was pregnant with my ds. However, I went into labour at 39+6wks and gave birth on exactly his due date - what a relief!

I was induced with no 1, he was 2 weeks late started on my own with no2, again 2 weeks late but had to have waters broke,no3 was 3weeks over, again pains but had to have waters broke and no4 exactly 10 days late, only one whos water went.mum had three and all more or less on time.

My mother popped out 4 children with no bother in less than 5 years - all average weights (between 7 and 8 lbs).
My sister and I have both had very long labours and c/sections resulting in very large babies (Dniece was 10lbs 1oz, DD was 10lbs, DD was 10lbs 10oz). I had to have a 4 year gap to get over the shock of the first baby
My sister and I have discovered, however that our paternal grandmother had largish babies (for the time) and that my aunt (my dad's sister) had big babies and had to have c/sections - in the '50s and '60s when they did the cut downwards rather than across
So ... obviously the big baby/c-section history runs in the female line of my father's branch of the family .... or so we think anyway ....

PS ... I was induced (unsuccessfully) with DD - our mother was induced with me - but only had her waters broken.

Me and my mum were both induced to speed up labours as things were progressing very slowly, but my mum had my sister without induction and my sister had her two without induction.
