Playing music to the bump!

Have tried this using earphones (had read that it can be heard better that way than me just listening to it - no idea if that's right, but seems logical in terms of acoustics!) and the LO seemed to wake up and start moving about a bit and had a good little kick about afterwards.

How can you tell if it's a positive reaction or a negative one?

Has anyone got any stories about music and bumps/babies?

Well - my mum listened to the complete Organ Works of J S Bach, played by Peter Hurford, when she was pregnant with me.

At 4yrs old I announced I wanted to be a church organist, and I started playing the organ when I was 10, and I even got to meet Peter Hurford on several occasions in my teens - even sharing a taxi with him on the way back to the train station after I'd been on an organ course he was running. And he also managed to speak to his good friend at St. Giles Catherdral in Edinburgh and arranged for me to sit up next to the console of the brand new (£1million) organ during the service.

I'm also now a church organist!

LOL! That's really interesting....anyone else? Am a bit worried about playing music too loud, but I guess I'll get a kicking if I do that!

I'm off to see La boheme at week 23 and Carmen at week 31 at the royal opera house (oooh get her!!) and I'm really looking forward to baby enjoying it too.
I did find this though music

my poor bump was subjected to constant music/noise (delete as appropriate) as I'm a musican. Mainly clarinet but also Eb clarinet (very squeaky), saxophone and flute. Plus of course the sound of orchestras/bands around me. She used to get highly excited at the sound of trumpets and kick like mad.
I was worried I'd traumatised her and put her off for life but she's now 20 months and absolutely loves music. Although her speech isn't up to much, she can sing in tune and has been able to for ages - at about 16 months she could sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star all the way through in tune AND in time.

i used to hold my little rdio against my bump in the later stages, playing classic fm in to him. i found it really relaxing. he would move around to start with then settle.
i then used it to get him to sleep after he was born by leaving it on in his room.

MJC's post reminds me that DS2 was also treated to the delights of my playing the organ/piano several times a week (2 services on Sundays, plus choir practice LOL) right up until the day my waters broke (infact they started trickling as I walked into church the Sunday before he was born!!).

Both my DS's are musicial, almost worryling so - I can see that they're both much more musical than me like MJC's child singing in tune long before they could talk. Although DS2 has developed a habit of saying (to the people that run the creche in the choir vestry during the morning service) "TOO LOUD" and covering his ears every time I start playing LOL !

That's an interesting link, peachygirl, thanks. Am not so keen on classical, but like opera might try that!! I've got some really nice Hawaiian music that I played bump yesterday and there was definitely some movement, but better when it was lower volume!!!

Thanks for the lovely stories!
