I have been itching now for about t10 days, started on my bump and now have got very light spots/lumpy rash nearly everywhere on my body. have had the test for cholestasis which was negative and have been told its 'just' something that some pregnant women get - so far i have tried aloe vera gel, witch hazel, diprobase cream, calamine lotion, bio oil, cool face cloths etc and have been prescribed hydrocortisone cream and piriton but am still climbing the walls with itchiness.

anyone got any other ideas?

no ideas im afraid, apart from making sure you dont use anything perfumed, including washing powder and fabric softner, but that really sucks, and i hope you feel better asap!

............preganancy sucks doesnt it!!....good job its women who have to endure it!!!

cholestasis - is that the one do to with the liver?

Ummm. . find a rough post or a breeze block and get rubbing.

"They" say that an infusion of chamomile as a bath or to dab yourself with does the trick. Do you think it could be your diet?

I had terrible itchness too - from about 13 weeks, all over my legs, was pescribed steriod creams but didnt want to use them, try using some muslin material, with organic poridge oats in, run your bath water through it, or some thing like that, my gran was telling me that the outs have some thing good for the skin - worked for me x x

I had the most awful itching from 5 until 6 months (i'm now 35 weeks) ago so i truly feel for you, it started off on my bump as a bit of a rash, then turned to a very severe itchy rash all over my bump, after this it spread to my arms, breasts and legs. Having the blood test for liver problems etc etc was finally told i has PUPPP which most people get near the very end of their pregnancy, the only thing i found that help me was cool baths, cool cotton flannel aveeno oatmeal bath oil and dandilion tablets from the herbal store. I swear i bought half of boots in the process of trying to get rid of it, some people think its the skin stretching and some people think its stress - after seeing a range of medical people i realised nobody had a clue what it was!!!

oohh forgot to mention, my doc prescribed me the mild steroid creams but they didn't do a thing, infact when i visited him a week after using them my rash had got worse and he said HE THOUGHT IT MAY MAKE IT WORSE IF I USED IT (great doc hey) after researching it on the net for months i came accross lots of people that found this too.

thanks for your tips everyone. angelfaces - yours ounds just like mine - am going to stop the steroid cream and add it to the bag of things that hasnt worked. have just got some E45 itch relief cream and E45 bath stuff to try - am spending a fortune too but nothing seems to work. will try the porridge oats thing when i can get into town.

freaking myself out by reading some things that say yo shouldnt take piriton while others think its fine - how are you supposed to make a judgement?!?!?!

Hiya

I had cholistasis and the only thing that eased the itching - on my hands anyway was to buy a bottle of pop and use the ridges in the cap - as if you were opening it. That makes no sense by i hope you get what I mean!

angelfaces · 12/08/2006 18:14

E45 didn't do anything for me, i visited a doctor who also specialised in homopathy (not sure if i spelt it right) and they said there was something in it that could make it worse (sorry, it may be fine for you) anyway i remembered earlier the one cream that finally got rid of it for me (with the help of the dandilion root capsules)was Euracin or Euricin lotion from boots or any chemist (not sure how ya spell it), it was expensive about £11 and it eased it and cleared it up within a matter of days, my was such a relief not to itch especially on my bump cos i think it got to the point when the itch was the only thing i could think of. i hope this helps, let me know how this goes on?
