Thats it really, i cant sleep night or day and it's making me feel ill, would my g.p be able to give me sleeping pills whilst pg or would going to see him be a waste of my time?

IME they don't like prescribing anything even if you aren't pregnant and will always make you try everything else first.
You may have already tried all these, but I'll list them anyway

No caffeine after 5pm
Warm milky drink before going to bed
Room not too hot or too cold
Wind down in the evenings before going to bed, so you're nice and relaxed

I think they'd be reluctant to TBH but a sympathetic one might give you a small number for occasional use - the concern is with regular use the baby can go into withdrawal after birth rather than it directly harming the baby.

Yeah i don't think they will either im just getting so depressed and ill through not sleeping its been 5 nights in a row with literally no sleep, usually i class not sleeping as only getting a couple of hours a night but im literally getting none.

I am tired! and im comfortable in bed but i just cant drift off i have tried everything i can think of.

Lavendar in my oil burner
Chammomile tea
hot milky drinks
no caffene after lunch
ect ect

But nothing works!

It's begining to bring me down and i really dont want it to effect the way im looking after ds.

I had 4/5 nights of no sleep early on in this pregnancy, but it turned out to be a side-reaction to the anti-sickness suppositories I was using. Are you taking any medication? I know how you feel - I really struggled looking after my DS. Can you nap during the day at all?

Charlee · 11/08/2006 15:58

No nap's during the day, i did try while ds was napping but i have the same problem as i do at night i just cant get to sleep.

I am taking clexain injections daily but have been taking them for ages and ages and i haven't had a problems so far.

I get bouts of insomnia & the only thing that works (other than drugs...) is to lie on the sofa & watch TV. It takes my mind off trying to sleep & I'll usually nod off watching it. My sister gets awful pregnancy insomnia & I think she resorted to mumsnetting in the wee hours!

How far on are you? Piriton is slightly sedative and safe in pregnancy.

Mine prescribed temazepam during both of my pregnancies. In both cases it was for the very end when I was gigantically huge and literally not sleeping at all. I think I was prescribed maybe 5 tablets of the very lowest dose. I was not to use them as anything more than an occasional help when I was completely worn out - not on consecutive days etc. I should emphasise that I had 2 very straightforward pregnancies with very large, healthy babies and the doctor knew me very well.

The pharmacist was sympathetic when I went to get the order filled and certainly did not appear to think it was anything out of the ordinary (and I understand from anecdotal stuff that they are always a bit wary with temazapam due to its "street use").

I will talk to my g.p when he comes back off holiday i dont like the stand in much.

I am having a strieght forward pregnancy this time but a very complicated one last time hence the daily injections, they gave me tamazepan once last time in hospital so maybe i could have it again im only 25 weeks though but i am litterally not sleeping it wouldnt be to bad excet its making me have migrains and vomiting and leaving me feeling so depressed.
