Mine is currently 10.7. One midwife said when it fell below 11 I would have to have iron tablets but my gp said I only need them if they fall below 10.5. Anyone have any experience of this? tia

MIne was 9.8 at 31 weeks. They gave me iron tablets.
I went on the internet and found that its totally normal to have low haemoglobin levels when you are pregnant because your blood volume increases so much. This is a sign of a healthy pregnany, and in fact women whose levels remain high are more likely to miscarry (?!) Apparently our blood is designed to become thinner because that might help with feeding through the placenta.
I started to take the tablets anyway, because I suspected I was slightly anaemic before I got pregnant. Also I drink far too much black tea, which inhibits iron absorbtion. Anyway, I found that my energy levels have risen, so I`ve decided to keep on taking them. 2 a day made me sick so I cut back to one a day, which is fine (no constipation, but black poo (sorry) )

Basially we shouldnt try to pump our bodies with too much iron though, and definitely shouldnt try too hard to get the levels back up to what they were pre-pregnancy.

mine is 10ish and i'm 34 weeks

feel tired a lot of the time and could happily sleep for 2 hours each lunchtime

iron tablets aren't disagreeing with me at the moment and I've just been upped from 2 to 3 a day. don't seem to be making a huge lot of difference though...

Spatone is worth trying too (you can get it in boots and health food shops)
