Just wondered whether I should get one - had a m/c last time and really want peace of mind to relax and enjoy this pregnancy (I'm 12 weeks).

My midwife told me not to bother - but I just wanted to see what others thought? Any experience?

I think it can be 2-sided in terms of peace of mind. They can be tricky to use, and baby's heartbeat can be hard to find which could make you even more worried. I've also seen posts on here from people who have worried themselves sick thinking they have heard other odd things from inside (one was "cord noises" where baby's neck was!)
So, yes they can be a good idea, but they can also cause more worry. Bear in mind that you;ll soon be able to feel baby kicking which will be plenty of reminder that s/he is alive and well.

I use one, have done since 10 weeks, but like the previous poster said if your likely to make yourself sick with worry if you cant find HB then i wouldnt get one, i bought mine with an open mind that i might not find it, but so far so good

My midwife adviced again'st it as they can be tricky to use and can cause more worry.

I did'nt use one ,if i was worried about baby i would just phone the midwife.

I didnt use one but my SIL became slightly obsessed with it all, resulting in visits to EPU to check everything was OK (it was).

I bought an Angel Sounds doppler so that DH could feel more a part of the whole thing, and we can't find a heartbeat (now 14 weeks) despite a few attempts.

Although I have had two scans now at the doctor's and they showed no problem, not being able to find the heartbeat at home is freaking me out a bit Perhaps if we'd spent a bit more on a better one that might have made more sense...

I would listen to your midwife

Even mws who are professionally trained to use these things struggle with the technology sometimes. Save your pennies and listen to your midwife, as the others say
