6+4, pain on one side

Hi,

I know I'm probably panicking about nothing, but for the last couple of hours I've had pain on my left side, right where I'd expect my ovary to grumble if I were ovulating. It's not agonising, but it's a constant sort of grippy, throbbing pain.

Obviously my brain is leaping straight to Ectopic Pregnancy : can anyone reassure me that they've had similar pains which have resolved on their own and turned out to be nothing? Could it be trapped wind or something embarrassing and harmless?!

Do you have any pain in your shoulder? Spotting? I did have pain on one side that was just muscular pain but I would recommend calling 111 for advice. If it is ectopic you need to be seen straight away.

Binglesplodge · 24/02/2014 21:26

No spotting at any stage, no shoulder pain - is it safe to sort of wait it out overnight and see if it's just a twinge from growing? If it's ectopic, will the pain give me a clue by worsening?!

(Oh, and thanks, by the way! This will seem silly when it turns out to be nothing but I appreciate you taking the time to answer)

Oh no problem, I've been there!

Have a look at this and see if you have any symptoms, I really would call NHS direct to see what they suggest as they may want you to be seen by epu in the morning for a scan.

catbus · 24/02/2014 21:49

I would certainly contact your EPU or GP very soon. Ectopic can present in many ways- indeed some people can be symptomless.
Best to err on the side of caution and they can check you out for this quickly. Good luck Smile

TeaandHobnobs · 24/02/2014 22:00

I would go see your GP, who I hope would refer you straight to your local EPU to be scanned.
I had this - in my case it was agonising! - but it turned out to be the corpus luteum (the follicle that remains on the ovary after ovulation and initially "feeds" the pregnancy until the placenta forms) having gone cystic, and become the size of a large grapefruit. So nothing to be worried about - it had disappeared by the 20 week scan.

So I hope your pain is something innocuous like that! But because of the risk of ectopic, please do go get yourself checked Smile

Daytona79 · 24/02/2014 22:21

I had the same and it also turned out to be corpus cyst

My doctor sent me straight to A&E to be checked out and I got a internal scan

I was 5.5 weeks

GeordieJellybean · 24/02/2014 22:29

I had the same at 7 weeks pregnant and went to A&E on the advice of out of hours docs in case it was ectopic. Scan showed healthy little dot with a heartbeat in the right place, such a relief! The doc said it was probably ligament stretching that caused the pain.
Hope the pain eases for you soon bit get checked out if you're worried.

Binglesplodge · 24/02/2014 23:12

Thanks, everybody. I'm going to keep cuddling the hot water bottle, and hopefully feel much better (and a bit silly) in the morning! If not, I'll go and get checked out: better to know and I'm sure they're used to paranoid pregnant women, especially first timers...
Goodnight and thanks x

Make sure it's not too hot, you don't want to overheat the wee thing :) best of luck, will you update us?

Sometimesbrunette · 25/02/2014 01:06

I've had exactly the same thing this weekend and was admitted to hospital- we are the same time along. It wasn't ectopic thank goodness.

I would say get to your GP. If it is ectopic then you need to know sooner rather than later. If its not, then at least you got to see your baby earlier.

Good luck x

DailyBread · 25/02/2014 01:28

OP I had exactly what you describe. It lased a few hours then seemed to go away. 48 hrs later I was in agony with a very serious ectopic pg which had ruptured.

Truly, in all probability, it's nothing but... if I'd have got myself checked out sooner (after the throbbing pain began), before the rupture, I wouldn't have ultimately lost my fallopian tube.

Not scaremongering, just saying, have a scan.

rubyinthedust · 25/02/2014 06:41

It could well be something harmless, but I'd get a scan asap if I were you. I had an ectopic pregnancy and I don't remember feeling the pain you describe, and I did have spotting. The shoulder pain people associate with ectopic pregnancies normally happens quite late - once the tube has ruptured and you're bleeding internally, so I wouldn't wait until to feel it to consult!

Binglesplodge · 25/02/2014 06:43

All seems ok this morning - I'll keep a very close eye and if it feels like it's returning I'll go straight to get checked out. Thanks for all the wise words: I know now that it's not something to mess about with, and I promise I won't take any (more) chances! Thankfully I work about 10 minutes from the hospital so I'll be in the right place if it happens again.
