With every case on the news just recently with these poor babies/toddlers being attacked and killed in their homes by the pet dogs, those with dogs does this worry you?

We have two dogs and my mum/dad keep asking if we will get rid of them as they worry about what cld happen. Im 37 weeks pregnant and its not something i considered.

Obviously it goes without saying that the dogs wld never be left with lo without supervision.

Im just curious on others thoughts??

Lol yea the dropping of food will get mine interested!!
Its nice to hear from other dog families that it does work as even tho i tried to explain to them thousands of families have dogs with no incidents i went away feeling awful for standing by them!

There are about 10 million dogs in UK. On average in the past 10 years, there has been 1 child per year killed by dogs. 10 million and 1, those are the odds.

Benefits: babies who grow up with dogs have less allergies. According to one study, babies who grew up with dogs were during their 1st year 44% less likely to develop an ear infection and 29% less likely to receive antibiotics. Overall, babies who lived with a dog were 31% more likely to be healthy in their first year than babies without a dog.

Not to mention that children learn responsibility, compassion, and empathy from having dogs. Studies have also shown that pets can help calm hyperactive or overly aggressive kids and that dog owners are far more likely to meet the daily exercise recommendations.

So your parents don't want your child to be happier and healthier?

They dont see any of those benefits though Hazle, only what they see in the news sadly. Its not the first time they have said it either they said it when the little girl was killed by an american bulldog. My dad made it clear he doesnt agree with it regardless of how many families have pets and this doesnt happen to them. But the comments only started once these attacks were published om the news. We got our dogs several yrs ago at which point he admitted he loves dogs and never expressed a concern for any future babies etc.
I also see so many children that are scared of dogs and even puppies which i think is a shame, obviously caution should always be used with unknown dogs but i wouldnt wish for my child to be scared.
I have asked that they dnt mention this again to me.

I brought my dd home, my dog have her a sniff and that was that. He seemed to know she was coming. He let my dd pull herself up on him when she was learning to walk, she's 3 now and we've never had any growling or snapping. That said, if he had reacted badly we'd have taken action. My dog breeder warned us it wasn't a good idea to have a puppy/very young dog and a baby/young child at the same time, that was good advice I think
