I'm being induced today, got the pessary in at 7.30 and been having period pains since 2 which became regular contractions at around 4. Now every 3 mins and pretty painful. Managing with the tens for now.

But I was examined about two hours ago and was completely effaced but only 1-2cm dilated. This meant that dh had to go home as can't go to labour wars until 3-4cm.

I feel a bit awful to be honest. I can't believe I'm labouring alone and on a strange ward. I really want to stay in control and get through the next few hours when hopefully I can dilate a couple of cms but finding it hard going.

Please encourage me!!!

Glad you are now on the labour ward, wishing you an easy delivery. Look forward to reading your birth announcement!

This takes me back OP. I wasn't induced, but labour overall very like this. You can do this. You will get there. When you are in a marathon like this, rest if and when you can (even if that just means not beating yourself up if upright and mobile becomes slumped for a bit).

You will get there.Smile

Good luckGrin

Hopefully pink is too busy with newborn snuggles to post!
I'm due to today so hope to join you soon Smile

Pinkbell123 · 18/02/2014 16:42

No newborn yet! Waters broke and contracting away but they may have to put the drip up soon. Thinking of having an epidural just to get a bit of a rest.

It's been a marathon for you but you are doing great so keep going and accept the epidural if it will give you some relief and some rest or maybe even a sleep between now and the pushing stage which you will need some energy for. I hope to log on in the morning and hear that you are enjoying newborn snuggles!

curiousgeorgie · 18/02/2014 19:04

Good luck!! You're doing so well, I love a thread like this Grin

Lorelei353 · 18/02/2014 19:32

You're definitely going to need some energy at the end so if you think the epidural will allow you some rest then it's a good idea!

Good luck. I'm so excited for you. Grin

Yonineedaminute · 18/02/2014 19:36

Oh bless you pink I totally know what you are going through, you are doing really well!

For reasons I won't bore you with I ended up on an antenatal ward in early labour without dh - it was without doubt the worst night of my life! I know it was only early labour but it was still painful and then the next morning I was told 'nope, you are still only 1-2cm dialated' so disheartening!

Your baby will be here soon somehow, so just try and hold on to that, good luck!

Yonineedaminute · 18/02/2014 19:37

Yep, go for the epidural if you want to get some rest as you will need the energy later.

Go pink!

Xavielli · 18/02/2014 19:44

Hope you're having newborn cuddles

AlwaysDancing1234 · 19/02/2014 07:06

I hope you are waking up this morning with a newborn

Pinkbell123 · 19/02/2014 07:07

Hi all. My 9lb baby boy was born just before 1 this morning. He's a cutie!

Birth wise I had a bit of a shocker. Epidural wore off one side and then completely fell out leaving me suddenly feeling 9 dilated contractions. Had another put in but didn't take before I was pushing. Baby was actually back to back so got stuck, I was so tired I asked for help and had a forceps delivery. Ending with a third degree tear which had to be stitched in theatre. Went into shock which delayed things.

Didn't get my skin to skin until a couple of hours after birth but at least he had his dad. But baby is so lovely and fed twice last night so I hope we will get on ok

No idea how to start processing what happened though! One min I had a simple epidural and next min all he'll broke loose.

Congratulations Pink and welcome to the world babypink! Smile

Mumof3xx · 19/02/2014 07:22

Congratulations pink I'm sure it was all worth it

AlwaysDancing1234 · 19/02/2014 07:37

Woohoo! Congratulations to you and your DH on your new son. Make sure you have a chat with your midwife in a few days to sort of de-brief and understand your labour a bit better. It definitely helped me to see everything written down to understand that labour took its own course and there wasn't anything I could have done differently. It sounds like you didn't have a great time during labour but you did it! Your little boy is here so for now just have lots of cuddles and enjoy every precious moment. Big unmumsnetty hugs to you all Thanks

Lorelei353 · 19/02/2014 08:22

Well done! You did it and your lovely little boy is here. Congratulations and enjoy the cuddles.

Definitely do a debrief with a midwife but leave it a few days when you've had time to think.

In the meantime, cuddle, cuddle. Great to hear he's feeding already too.

Well done pink and babypink ThanksThanksThanks
I've been lurking on this thread, my apologies Wink
Sorry for your complicated labour, but don't worry, the fuzz will wear off and you'll all be right as rain before you know it
Congratulations!

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 19/02/2014 15:36

Congratulations on the baby! It can take a while to process everything when things go "wrong". Don't feel bad about asking for help if you need it later regarding your birth. Enjoy baby cuddles for now though! xx

Yonineedaminute · 19/02/2014 17:08

Yay, congratulations and bloody well done you! Hope you are enjoying your lovely ds.

I understand what you mean about wanting to make sense of your birth, although I was lucky enough to have my ex midwife mum at mine so she was able to tell me quite a lot of stuff that I think dh was clueless about! I had a very similar experience to you (long early stage, epidural issues, forceps in theatre) but it did all become a fuzzy blur that I actually looked back on sort of fondly!

I'm doing it all over again any day now so it can't have been that bad!

Showy · 19/02/2014 19:45

Oh congratulations. I'm so pleased your little boy is safely here.

Having had a traumatic first delivery, I can well imagine how you feel. You are no doubt exhausted which doesn't help but it's a real shock when something so natural turns out to be very difficult indeed. A back to back baby and forceps delivery is terribly shocking and really very painful. It's okay to feel wobbly and upset about it. When you're ready, talk to your midwives and to your family. Talk on here too if you'd like. In the meantime, you should rest as much as physically possible and take care of yourself emotionally. Hunker down with your new baby and enjoy getting to know him.

You did brilliantly. Long induction with a back to back baby is a tough thing indeed and look what you did, look who you made. Well done. Take care.
