My first labour was 24 hours and ended in forceps. My MW said it's likely my DD was in the wrong position, so labour didn't progress and then she didn't descend and that's why I couldn't push her out.

I'm now pregnant with no 2 and desperately want to hear some positive stories about second labour! Thank you

like this trehad, ive just posted a similar question.

1st 48 hrs + 24 of whuch were active labour in hospital. Back to back, stuck, failure to progress. Horrible episiotomy and forceps.
Resulted in pnd and me having anxiety attacks over this birth. Mw suggested a elc, and i find out at 34 weeks if im havign one. Part of me wants to try so i can hope for a birth like these, but im so terrified it'll happen again!

For anyone a worrying about a subsequent labour, you should see if your hospital offers a birth reflections service or similar. At my hospital, this involves meeting with a senior MW who haas read through your notes and talks you through what happened. In my case, they lost my notes and they weren't found until my due date when the MW called me & we went through it over the phone. It was really interesting. Yes, my labour hadn't gone smoothly (to put it mildly) but it was clear that all of the problems encountered were fairly usual ones which, in a busy hospital, would crop up at least a few times a week & the staff were completely in control, were considering what to do if X didn't work etc. It was really reassuring.

Good to bump this, I've been rereading this on a frequent basis to remind myself to have hope that the second labour will be easier!

oh this thread gives me hope. I had 71hour labour, 3hrs pushing, forceps, pph, unexplained loss of bladder control for months, prolapse, severe pelvic floor pain during labour that no one I know knows what I'm on about.

I'm now 35w and hoping for a better time of it. I did have an epidural last time but it failedSad pain relief finally came with the spinal block in theatre. oh sweet relief. I nearly named my son after the anaesthetist.

I had a shocking stressful and scary first labour, it was that ballad it almost put me off having number 2! But anyway here I am with number 2 being made as we speak and I'm just hoping my second is like all yours!!!!!!! Please please please let him just fly out!

I've had 3 labours.

1st - 37 hour back to back with augmentation drip, diamorphine, gas&air, ARM and finally ventouse delivery (I was one pull off theatre!) of a 9lb12oz dd1, 2nd degree tear, 4 days early.

2nd - 10 hour simple delivery, wee bit gas, a little graze and nothing else. 10 days early, ds was 9lb3oz (glad he came early!).

3rd - induction at 36+6 due to a worsening kidney problem I had. 12 hours from pessary to delivery. Had a nasty tear that was repaired in theatre (2nd verging to 3rd) but got a great dd2, weighed 7lb15oz (once again, glad for the early arrival!!).
