9wks pregnant with brown discharge, scared

I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant and am really worried, I've had brown discharge the last couple of days when I wipe going to the loo, and can feel the mildest of cramps in my lower abdomen. I saw my midwife for the first time today and she didn't give much reassurance, I'm paranoid every time I go to the toilet. My scan is still 2.5 weeks away and between this and a stressful job I'm terrified of miscarriage. Has anyone else experienced this, I'm so scared.

Heather, grab a taxi and go to a and e so they can do a scan? Please try not to panic, there are many things this could be: a benign polyp, cervix infection... please do not stay on your own if you are distressed. Get a cab and see what a and e say? Thinking of you, remember lots of women bleed and go on to have healthy babies xxxx

My mw told me to go to a and e if I started bleeding so they could do a scan. Up to you but if you feel too scared I would go see what they think get some reassurance xxx

I've had bleeding at various stages in three successful pregnancies that went to full term, and my 3 lovely boys. Very scary, and it's not always the case that it turns out be nothing, but it could be. I think you should only go to A&E if there is significant bleeding and/or pain otherwise you will be up there all night and the trauma of that may make things worse. Can someone come to stay with you? Because I would say that although A&E is not ideal, being alone in a vulnerable situation is really not a good idea either. You need to keep an eye on your temperature and other signs of infection. I have driven myself to hospital when miscarrying before I had my children, but another time was horribly unwell and practically delirious with pain and fever so it really can be unpredictable. I think you should not be on your own.... really hopeful for you xxxxxxx If tonight things just pass over I would call gp in the morning and ask to drop in to wait for the nurse, do a urine test as it will test for the presence of UTI infection/not and will see that you still have pregnancy hormones

Thanks everyone, I'm in such a state I've done nothing but cry! I'm not in pain but I've had brown discharge, then blood-threaded discharge, I'm all over the place. Its only when I wipe, it's not pouring, I feel like I'm making a drama over nothing...

Heather you are frightened and I and countless others, totally understand how you are feeling.

What have you done so far? Have you talked to any medical professionals or organised an early scan?

SoonToBeSix · 06/02/2014 18:16

Heather please get yourself checked out, you are going to make yourself ill worrying.

Owlysims · 06/02/2014 18:17

You are not making a drama at all!! It's scary and needs checking out! I hope they've organised you an early scan now to hopefully put your mind at rest?!

Hubbythecatandme · 06/02/2014 19:23

Heatherlou please don't think you are a drama queen, I was in a hysterical state on Sunday and I've had my scan and my baba is beautiful and healthy!
Midwife said as long as it's not flowing like your period would it's likely to be nothing to worry about. She said either the blood can be left from the first period you missed (as in there was still a bit of tissue lining the uterus and it needs to come out at some point) or because the uterus is very low at our stage, it can be that the bottom of the uterus got irritated (in my case because of constipation related straining, sorry TMI). I had a tiny little bit of bright red blood and fresher blood when I wiped the first time and I screamed and screamed. Please try to stay calm. xxx
