Hello ladies, my little one is now one and so I am feeling a little out of touch on this subject. I have two friends who are pregnant and want to buy them a gift. One is 4/5 months and the other 7/8 months.

What have you recieved that has touched you, or been lovely or just plain the best gift.

or ideas on what you would have loved to recieve if someone had just seen it or thought about it...

all ideas gratefully recieved

a voucher for a pedicure as you can't get down there to paint your toenails.
I had them in both pregnancies amd already looking forward to the next one

bettythebuilder · 04/08/2006 14:05

Pedicure is a great idea. A friend did my toenails before dd was born "so the baby has something nice to look at as it's being born" (!)
aitch -lol at the "skint knee" - way to make you feel better

I wouldn't be without my lovely sausage shaped thermaline pillow, apparently it'll be great when LO comes along, too!

Axolotl · 04/08/2006 16:21

Aitch - oh! That's really thrown me because I thought it was bliss - I had practically stitches from my chin to the back of my neck. Wonder whether it was because yours was 'grazy', as you say...

Great ideas, wish I'd have had the wheel!

Any more unique ideas?

A manicure/pedicure and a really really good facial.

I got bought by my MIL, and then went on to buy for most of my friends while pregnant, and V shaped pillow.

invaluable for feeding as you can use one side for you, and one side for resting baby's head on, and then when baby is learning to sit up, is great for helping support them.

and of course the best thing is that the pillow is wonderful support in bed while pregnant!!!

I now have two, and when ever I have to go into hopsital (which is sadly a lot with my kiddies at times), I take one with me. took one in when giving birth each time too......

in fact.....goes on hols with me too....tad obsessed with it maybe

Cosy dressing gown is a great idea for the 4/5 months preg lady. Someone gave me a really glamorous top that made that 'is she preg or just fat' tummy look gorgeous.

I second the V shaped pillow, I bought the Widgy one and it seemed to be the best for me. Bought mothercares while preg last time and flattened it before I had even had DS (no that fat- honest!)

A friend took me to get some sexy but supportive underware. Made me feel gorgeous when I was enormous rather than having to wear the white saggy bras that everywhere seems to stock!

I love doing hampers for people for pressies with loads of little presies in them. Some practical and some just luxurious. You can make some for before birth, some during and some after.

Just a few ideas- you know them best so know what kind of things they would want;
Before: Travel size soapy stuff/ moisuriser (LOVE sanctuary Mum to be stuff. Smells gorgeous!) Birth: Massager, flannel, sweets, hair bands, aromatherapy oils etc
After: Lahinsoh Nipple cream (godsend when learning to BF DS), Chicco breast pads (I found them the best but guess everyone likes diff ones!) Lip gloss or various makeup.

Some sort of treatment. I had lots of swedish back massages towards the end. They were fab for the sciatica I was suffering from.

Collude with their partners and book them the appointment though. Buying the voucher is one thing but actually going to the appointment is another.

axolotl,
can you imagine my surprise and horror? went for my first wee (in the bidet, natch, now why didn't i think to put that on the 'essential things a pregnant woman needs to know' list?) and came back to administer the lotion to my fanjolele thinking that for £19 i would soon be in seventh heaven...

boy oh boy it was nippy. but of course, at that price i tried it again the next day, to much the same effect, sadly. the only thing that soothed me was some sort of gell mixed with essential oils that the midwives gave me.

so yeah, sorry to burst that particular balloon, axolotl, although judging by the shocked look on the midwife's face when she did her 'inspection', i do think my grazing was particularly bad.

JennT · 04/08/2006 20:58

I used olive oil for fanjo. Put rose essential oil in the last week. Was lovely....

Can't believe I just said rubbing my fanny with cooking ingredients was lovely!

JennT · 04/08/2006 21:00

Ahh this oil is meant to be used AFTER birth?

aitch71 · 04/08/2006 21:08

yes, jenn t...
when are you using yours? bank holidays?

JennT · 04/08/2006 21:12

Used it BEFORE birth to stop tears. Just got a little graze as a result. Wouldn't dream of using anything after!

tenalady · 04/08/2006 21:18

My sil came armed with 4 or 5 womens magazines, great i thought bugger off so I can curl up and read em

aitch71 · 04/08/2006 22:08

only joking jenn t. i used oil before birth as well and i did a bit of, erm, rummaging down there beforehand as well, so i think that's why i didn't tear. when are you due?

mustrunmore · 04/08/2006 22:16

My best best gift this time was from my birth partner. She gave me a little suitcase in just the style I'd have chosen, to use as ds2's keepsake box. I am a total hoarder and nostalgic, so it was perfect.

Axolotl · 05/08/2006 09:32

Aitch - love 'fanjolele'!!! New favourite word for front bottom.
