Am worried I am maybe not eating the right things. I know I am not eating enough fruit or veg or drinking enough water, I probably have too much caffeine too - what are you all having?

I eat five times a day – I find it's the best way to keep me going. Typically it's…

Breakfast – scrambled egg with spinach on toast or waffle with banana and maple syrup or crumpets/toasted muffin
Get to work – banana muffin or snack box of nut and dried fruit or porridge
Lunch – leftover dinner so pasta with sauce or curry and brown rice
Mid-afternoon – Ryvita and philly or Babybel and apple
Dinner – fish, peas and potatoes or veggie curry or chilli

And the odd bit of chocolate thrown in, with a decaf cuppa at work ;)

I'm 24 weeks now and have to say I eat quite a bit of fruit and veg. I take carrot sticks to work with me and have sandwiches at lunchtime. But on the flipside I do eat chocolate etc when I fancy it. Being pregnant hasnt really changed the way I eat apart from the fact that I eat little and often now instead of 3 meals a day. Caffeine wise I didnt really drink fizzy drinks beforehand anyway so I dont miss them but I do limit myself to 2 weak cups of tea or very milky coffee just for the taste really. as long as you arent going overboard you will be fine, baby will take what it wants and your body will let you know when you need something in particular.

I'm 25 weeks and absolutely starving all the time. Today I had:

Toasted muffin with marmite
Banana
Strawberry yoghurt
2 slices toast and jam
Tortellini with cheese and butter
2 squares white chocolate.

It is only the afternoon but I'll have a proper dinner and at least one bowl of bran flakes yesterday and maybe some more toast. And at least 2 glasses of semi-skim. Plus my prenatal vitamins and some omega 3 gummies.

I was really sick between week 6 and 14 and also had a tooth extracted so I lost some weight. I basically just survived on baked potatoes, soup and Gatorade. I was worried about not eating enough so I started tracking it on Livestrong which helped. I've started trying to throw a handful of frozen spinach/peas or some tinned beans/chickpeas into whatever I'm eating to make it more nutritious (depending on what it is, of course!).

I was forgetting to take my vitamins a lot but my new system is to take them at night and immediately put the ones for tomorrow on the bedside table. It is working for now!

Am 28+2 and definitely getting hungrier!
Cannot wait to skip downstairs for breakfast in the morning, and have started doing sandwich + soup for lunch rather than either or. Also eating far too much chocolate. The worst day was an entire Terry's chocolate orange. In one sitting. And most depressingly - no I didn't feel sick!
No chocolate at all today which is a small miracle:

Breakfast - 2 crumpets and peanut butter, yoghurt
Lunch - tuna salad, hard boiled egg and I lost count how many slices fresh bread. Orange.
Snack - chocolate biscuit and 5 starburst sweets (mustn't keep them in the door of the car)
Dinner - steak pie, chips and green beans.
Strawberries and cream for pudding.

This was quite a good eating day as there was no cake either Blush

im 7 weeks pregnant have been continuously nauseas for a week or so the only things im managing to eat are
.crisps
.ice lollys
.sparkling water
literally the smell or look of anything else makes me retch i saw a picture of soup in a magazine yesterday and got sick and i take pregnacare

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 06/02/2014 02:35

summer sorry you are suffering - it's awful. Just to let you know, pregnacare severely increased my vomiting and nausea. Switching to the Healthy Start vits provided by mw helped to improve things a little. For me it may have been that I don't react well to extra iron which the pregnacare tablets contain. Just thought I'd met it in case it helps!

Strokethefurrywall · 06/02/2014 02:48

Summer - pregnacare made my vomiting worse too and my obgyn said that some women are intolerant of the iron levels, so switched me to a pre-natal vitamin that has zero iron which I was better able to tolerate. Worth a try?

I'm 33 weeks - pregnancy seems to switch off my appetite, I'm rarely "hungry", I just feel a little faint if I'm overdue some food rather than actually feel hunger pangs.

Most days I'll have toast and marmite for breakfast, a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch and a small meal for dinner. I try to get a banana or yoghurt in for a snack and I drink a lot of water.

I find it ironic and only slightly amusing that when I'm pregnant I struggle to put on weight...

theborrower · 06/02/2014 08:29

Interesting what people are saying about pregnacare. Is that why it says on the box to have it with your largest meal? I always take mine in the morning (so I remember) and need a slice of toast before my main breakfast about an hour later, because if I don't I feel sick. Sounds silly if I'm clearly not following the instructions properly, but I figured it wouldn't make much difference. Maybe I should take it in the evening instead

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 06/02/2014 08:38

theborrower there is no reason not to try it in the evening with your main meal. Varying the timing didn't help me but it might help you. The Healthy Start vits contain everything you need though and don't cost £8 a box so I'd still recommend them instead!

squizita · 06/02/2014 08:52

I have found I can take pregnacare with a 'proper' sit down meal. However on bad nausea days I can't have that - I found Sanatogen brand is much easier on the tummy!

TwoThreeFourSix · 06/02/2014 09:28

Am 27 weeks with DS2.
Still feeling sick all the time so nibble loads.

Have a bowl of cereals plus glass of OJ, pretty quickly followed by a twix (usually in the metro cos I feel so sick whilst travelling).
Lunch is a small bowl of pasta or a sandwich or soup. Plus OJ plus a muffin or a cookie.
Snack of a clementine and a biscuit or cake.
Dinner is a main meal (so pasta or chicken casserole and rice or steak and chips)

I tend to drink 2 litres of water a day, plus a glass of milk just before bed.

I'm still working FT and am exhausted. My motto is to eat whatever I need to to get through the day and night

With DS1 I literally ate hundreds of cookies (I counted once Blush ) because I was sick throughout the 9 months and only really fancied sweet stuff. I put on 11kg and lost it all within 6 weeks after the birth, despite eating every night whilst BF!

My only really "good" thing is I drink a lot of water (but I always do as I get migraines otherwise) and I take pregnancy vitamins.

MummyPig24 · 07/02/2014 05:39

Nearly 35 weeks and yesterday I had:

8am: grapes, strawberries and apple.
9.30: boiled egg and slice of toast.
12.30: pizza and salad
4.30: pizza and salad (went for dinner with my grandma and she made the same as I did for lunch!) followed by pineapple and yogurt.
8pm: jam tart and 2 party rings.

A few cups of tea, some squash and a lot of water thrown in there. I'm not massively hungry, but very thirsty. I weighed myself about 3 weeks ago and I had gained 5lbs. I need to be careful I don't pack it on in these last few weeks.

MummyPig24 · 07/02/2014 05:43

I take vitamin D when I remember. Stopped taking frolic acid at 12 weeks. This is dc3.

eepie · 07/02/2014 12:07

Whole 1st trimester I didn't completely lost my appetite, pretty much survived on fruit, and typical day was:

Lots of water
Breakfast:
Crackers
half a piece of marmite toast (before gagging on the other half and having to throw away on my walk to work)

Snack:apple/grapes/fruit

Lunch: Toasted pitta with slice of cheese

Dinner: Nothing/more fruit/bit of toast or cereal.

From 12 - 16 weeks was just slowly building up to eating more normal things/strong flavours again....NOW I am 19 weeks and just the last 2 weeks or so have got my appetite back and a typical day is:

LOADS of water

Breakfast:

Cup of Tea
Scrambled eggs on toast with loads of butter, Actimel (on antibiotics for UTI)

Second Breakfast:

Huge bowl of yoghurt & fruit or bowl of cereal

Snacks: Banana cake/Fruit again/Cheese

Lunch: Falafel wrap with salad or whole 12" pizza !!

More snacks !!

Dinner: Actually don't eat much at dinner time as I am too full from the whole day's eating.....

Then @11pm/Midnight I am starving so eat another bowl of cereal/bircher muesli/yoghurt

My appetite is the biggest it's ever been but I haven't actually put on much weight at all. It's all going to the baby !! Not sure how long that's going to last though....

eepie · 07/02/2014 12:22

correction : "completely lost my appetite" not "didn't completely"

livingzuid · 07/02/2014 13:52

23 weeks and I eat or I am sick as a dog. Morning is always Nutella on toast with a mug of hot milk, then depends what I can keep down in the afternoon. Normally home cooked food though and I have to have tomato with mozzarella and balsamic vinegar every day. I drink lots of water and a pint of milk a day. I have craved milk. Then I can't eat much because I feel sick again.

I drank lots of diet coke in my first trimester it really helped the nausea. Had to be tap with lots of ice from mcds or somewhere. Still have a couple a week. There are some guidelines on caffeine on the NHS site I am sure you are fine.

floppops · 07/02/2014 14:02

I'm 34 weeks and pretty hungry. Trying to eat well at mealtimes but am getting hungrier in this trimester.
Yesterday I had muesli and then later on baked beans and cheese, then coleslaw, potato salad, ham and avocado salad with french bread for lunch. Then chicken stew, mash and vegetables and a couple of chocs, a can of caffeine free diet coke, water, one coffee.
Today I've had so far muesli, pesto pasta salad and a biscuit. Will be homemade curry and rice tonight.
