Anyone had experience of this?

Fruit can cause glucose in urine samples! Especially pineapple as I found out! Mine all came back fine. Good luck

It was my random blood sample that was high.

Don't be scared. Most people don't have any symptoms with gd, you could just be thirsty because you are pregnant.
What had you eaten before the blood test? Seemingly innocuous things like cereal and yogurt can cause high random readings.

Don't worry about a big baby. There is no extra risk of a big baby if you have well-controlled gd. If you do end up having it you will have caught it early enough to manage your blood sugars. I've had gd in both my pregnancies - one baby was 7lbs and one was 7lb 3.
GD is most dangerous when it is undiagnosed.

what was your random blood sugar, and how long after eating was the reading?

middleclassdystopia · 03/02/2014 20:35

2 hours after eating not sure what it was. Midwife just said it was very high.

thats not very helpful! try not to worry though, it wont help. im type 1 diabetic and on occasion members of my family have been curious about my meter and have had surprisingly high readings, subsequently done a few more checks & all have been fine.

extreme thirst is normal for pregnancy too: its maddening for someone diabetic as its normally a sign that you are high, then you check and are fine!
